Breakfast Topic: Addons requests and recommendations
Lileah on Livejournal was looking for some help with an addon the other day, and her request gave me an idea. For this morning's Breakfast Topic, we're going all out with the addon requests. If you've got a need for an addon (like custom timers, an addon for keeping track of food, or any other weird needs you might have), ask in the comments below, and if you're an addon expert, show off your expertise by letting the requester know if there's an addon that will fill their needs. And if there's isn't an addon that can do what they're asking, maybe this comments section will be the impetus for someone out there to create one of their own. Think we can find a need out there for an addon that doesn't yet exist? Of course, there are some things that addons can't do (choose targets or spells for you is a big one), but otherwise, consider this thread your clearinghouse for addon service requests.
If you can't get an answer here, feel free to tip us, too -- we at WoW Insider always love finding out and writing about new addons. Whether you need help finding an addon that does what you want or you know of a great addon that could use some coverage, let us know and we'll be thrilled to take a look at it.

FIRST! :D

I don't know if something already exists for this, but a nice addon would be one for pvp battlegrounds/arenas, checks the class of the targeted player, and can warn you when you are in range of certain moves like intercept, and likewise notify you when you're in the dead zone for such a move. I'd love to make something like this myself but I wouldn't even know where to begin! But it could be infinitely useful.
It could maybe even be tailored for rogues/druids in stealth to get a little bit of a better idea of what safe range they could be in stealth and not be detected.
Does anything like this already exist? If not, someone should make it!

Check out Proximity ;)

too dependent on the other player's talents and gear - especially with stealth detection.
Generally, though - if your ranged spells are in range, so are their's. If your melee is in range, so are their's. [and for certain classes, their ranged spells now aren't]

is there an addon for rogues that will show HP, energy and combo points around the toon and not up on the character pane? like the the one they have for tanks?
Farrell May 26th 2008 8:25AM
You could possibly use aloft to do that - it changes the name tags [like when you press V to show them] so that it can have extra info including combo points.
Not sure if that's what you mean, though

It may not be exactly what your looking for, but I use MetaHud. It shows the health and energy bars quite clearly, and you can enable it to show little dots along one of the bars for your combo points. It works pretty well I think
Emo May 26th 2008 8:43AM
MetaHud is a heads-up display that puts all the relevant target info in the center of the screen: your health and mana, target health and mana, pet info, combo points, buffs and debuffs. It's scalable and the transparency can be changed based on whether or not you're in combat

IceHUD does (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/11013/)
I'm sure there are plenty of HUD addons that will do too.

Need an addon which moves the PVP Objectives which show up at top center of the screen

Capping
Aelwythe May 26th 2008 2:17PM
MoveAnything. It let's you move...anything.
Runstadrey May 26th 2008 12:41PM
Where can I find Capping? I've checked the usual suspects and none seem to have it. The only place that I can find a reference to it is WoWAce wiki and compilations. And I guess I'm too stupid to figure out how to download from WowAce.

haha, you're not the only one, mate. i've made it a rule to not even bother clicking if a download link has "wowace.com" in its root address... which is unfortunate because i love ace based mods, they seem to be more stable patch to patch and work as stand-alones so when one does fail, you can disable just that one and not lose the functionality of all the rest. but if they're not available for download from some add-on central site like curse or wowvault, then i pretty much write them off as non-existant because i just can't figure out how to download from wowace, lol.
anyway as to your query... there's also a mod out there called BattleObjectivesMover but i think i'd try out the one the person before me suggested first, MoveAnything, as that sounds far more useful.

You can always download the latest versions of Wowace addons at this URL (bookmark it)...
http://files.wowace.com/
But, by far, the easiest way to do it is by using the Wowace Updater...
http://www.wowace.com/wiki/WowAceUpdater
You install it using the Internet Explorer web installer, but it's a standalone application that updates itself and can download an install the latest versions of all your addons in a few mouse clicks. No unzipping and manually copying files.
It also has a nifty search/filter function to help you find new addons that you might not know existed.
The first time you run it, you'll be asked a question about External libraries. I recommend you choose "WITH Externals" so that every addon is self contained and won't be broken by a library change for another component.

When I was playing my Priest I was trying to find a Mod that would track how much Damage my PW:Shield could still absorb to be a little more efficient while grinding.
I never found anything like that but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to code.
Quinto May 26th 2008 8:26AM
I want an addon that will display the world map in a simple little window i can resize, move around and have open in my UI all the time - while still having the option of hitting M and seeing the regular full sized map. Basically i want something like this so i can see where the flags are in WSG without having to tab in and out of my map.
Farrell May 26th 2008 8:27AM
actually, it would. When the PW:S absorbs a hit it doesn't report how much damage it took, just that it absorbed the hit.
Farrell May 26th 2008 8:28AM
@quinto:
That's already in game - the battle map.
If it's not visible, I think it's ctrl-M to bring it up. possibly shift-M
Avonar May 26th 2008 8:37AM
Ooh, I want this too! :) Also useful to let you know how much leeway you have if you toss it on a tank in an emergency.
