Around Azeroth: Squicktastic
With all the crowded, multi-character pictures being featured at Around Azeroth these days (hey, we've just about covered every dang piece of landscape in this game), I figured it would be nice to step back and just look at something environmental. Sophiera of Thaurissan found this floating ring of ... stuff .. surrounding a mushroom in Zangarmarsh. Let's play a guessing game! Is this:
- A mushroom producing some kind of liquid spores in an attempt to procreate
- A mushroom that has developed enough of a center of gravity to cause a river to flow around it
- A mushroom that has just been attacked by some of the more benign supernatural beings in Ghostbusters
- A mushroom that is leaking KY Jelly for a horrible, unimaginable reason, possibly related to that female draenei vibrating gnome joke
Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. And unfortunately, if you send us WotLK Alpha screenshots we'll be unable to use them here for the time being. They do make nice desktop backgrounds, though.

This is the second time you've posted a screenshot of this thing. But it is neat, no idea what it is! =D

Lubricated mushrooms?
Wait, I thought this was WoW Insider, not Darknest.
deviationer May 30th 2008 11:14AM
it's probably fake.
There was a post a few months after BC came out in the WoW forums with someone saying they found a secret path that was opened up for them. It started at the dark portal and went through zanger and ended up at that portal in nagrand. That screenshot looks almost exactly what I remember.

thats dumb, ive seen this too
and my best guess is that its spore coming out of the mushroom. Looks kinda lumpy tho
Nekudotayim May 30th 2008 12:15PM
I saw that too.
Theserene May 30th 2008 12:48PM
It's not fake, you can see it yourself if you fly round Zanger

Oh I know what this is. This is a reference to Alice in Wonderland. There is a catapillar smoking a hooka at the bottom of this mushroom iirc. this is the smoke ring he produces.
Oldbear May 30th 2008 11:24AM
Maybe the screenshoter... taker... person is smoking the hooka.

You can only see the caterpillar with the Gnomish World Enlarger, as well.
This has already been featured on WoW Insider, BTW.
Wishful May 30th 2008 11:41AM
Maybe its one of those pictures where they increase the exposure time and that blur is a friend of the screenshot taker's epic flyer?
Theserene May 30th 2008 12:49PM
Nope, it's really there and rotates round the mushroom. It's in Zanger near the border with Terrokar
Nekudotayim May 30th 2008 12:14PM
Now that's a big, farting mushroom!

Originally that effect was used as the skybox for Zangar back in the Alpha for TBC and it went all around Zangarmarsh and then Blizzard removed it to just being around that mushroom.

Weird

If you have ever seen a picture of Saturn, the rings are all just tiny particles of dust and rock in space, and gravity sorts them into the rings. In a similar fashion, I have seen this mushroom and think that the stream is just arial spores in a draft, as it seems to be the most logical explanation.

Imo, it was meant to be the water getting sucked out of Zanga.
Just my $00.02 :).

maybe there's something there in the ghost world. Problem being... how would you ever know. Theres no way to get on top of a mushroom in ghost form. Hmmm.
