Tank pets, especially boars, are really falling out of favor now due to the changes to growl. I would advise getting a DPS pet since their higher damage usually allows them to hold aggro more effectively. Alternately, you could get a pet that you'll be using at the endgame, like a scorpid, or even just one that you like the look of, since there are many pets at low levels that have unique skins or are ones that you simply don't see much at high levels since leveling them up is such a pain.
