A friend and I have been battling this age issue on our RP toons. We both have nightelves and trying to get them the right age according to lore has been a challenge. We both are a part of Dramatis Personae and they say the minimum age requirement is 300. One of our problems with this has been we feel that they don't necessarily need to be 300 at the start of play that they can mature with leveling, etc. We've both put them to be approximately 250 being in their late teens. As far as David's comments with the age and being babies for 20 years, etc. Human history has shown that people lived to be over 200 years old. Methuselah lived to be 969 years old. They didn't mature at a different rate than we do now just lived to be older. Makes me wonder if this is true in NE lore.

The oldest man was 120 years old. And without getting into a religious debate, Methusalah is Biblical in origin, and it's part of just one of many many religions. To me, the tale of Methusalah is just another work of fiction, along with other fiction that says humans lived an obscenely long time.I guess until we find alien species with longer lifespans than us, we can't really guess on maturity for longer lifespans. We can only look at the maturity rate of shorter-lived species on Earth and extrapolate by comparing their maturation:lifespan ratio to ours.

My understanding is that the maturation rate of various species doesn't vary in length according to how long that species lives so much as according to how big and complex that species is and how much it has to learn versus how much it can just get from instinct. Then again, big and complex species also tend to live longer, so who knows? On earth, there just isn't any precedent for animal life forms that live more than about 100 years or so.

In response to the claim of a lifeform on earth.. unless you're not counting tortoises for some reason, who have been documented to live 150+ years, which is half a decade more than 'or so'. Turkey buzzards also have 110+ years on them. Not so much more than 100, but they still do. One thing to consider, more on topic, is the change that had to take place for females to be accepted as druids... and men to be accepted as warriors. Neither of which is so prevalant in the lore until the night elves lost their immortality. Suddenly, they were alot less picky in regards to who got to play what role, and druids themselves became less distinct (IG, you have to 'earn' the right to learn how to be a druid of the talon through the questline, and if I remember right, he's one of the last of the true druid of the talons around.) So, if your character has been a druid all of their life... if they're female, they'd be rather dramatically younger. If they're male, they're bound to have experienced quite a bit of change in their way of life. This would affect ALL night elves to a certain degree. Suddenly, their male/female divisions were so succinct anymore.
