The Seven takes down Kil'jaeden in China

To tell the truth I'm kind of surprised this happened so quickly -- apparently The9, who runs World of Warcraft in China, were able to drop the Sunwell Plateau patch pretty soon after it came out in the US and Europe. Burning Crusade, we know, took a long time to release over there (it came out months after it did on this side of the world), but either The9 is responding to pressure to release content closer, or patch updates are much easier to localize and distribute.
Either way, grats to The Seven and all of the other guilds worldwide able to topple The Deceiver. Next up, Northrend!
Update: Our commenters remembered something I forgot: All of the Sunwell Plateau gates were released open in China, to make up for the late content releases in the past.

Grats to them, but wasn't 2.4 released in China with all the SP gates already open?
Dan Jun 2nd 2008 3:02PM
Yes, it was done that way due to the usual delays in getting patches to China.
RedHotRadiators Jun 2nd 2008 3:31PM
Er no, the gate was opened 4 days before they killed him. If the gates were opened the same time worldwide they would be world 2nd atm.
Silverslide Jun 2nd 2008 5:13PM
If the gates were open for a while yet they are only beating him now it sounds like they are riding on the EU/US strategies that are now online (not that it's not still an achievement).

No, the patch 2.4 was released a week later in China than it was in the US/EU. The9's servers were suffering from a lot of problems, and many realms' SSO progresses were rolled back multiple. So after a few weeks, to reduce the load on their servers and compensate for player effort, they decided to set SSO progress on all realms to be completed, meaning you get access to all the dailies, badge vendors, etc. The gates, however, were always opened one week later than they were in EU/US.

I think that headline should read 'The Seven takes down Kil'jaeden in China...promptly sells all of it's gold'.
Lence4ever Jun 2nd 2008 3:07PM
Yes, and Akama and Maiev can double team Illidan while The Seven sits back and watch too... not mentioning that guild's professional gold farming team. Damn you Asian realm nerfs damn you!!!

so true, Nosophoros is a racist bastard who just refuses to acknowledge other people's effort and progress.
leogong08 Jun 2nd 2008 4:08PM
The correct translation of their guild name should be "The Seventh Heaven".

I think China deserves a reward...
... how about their version of the game ala Europe that can only connect to Chinese servers.
Gwwwfps Jun 2nd 2008 5:19PM
We already have that, but thanks for being so considerate.
Wolftech Jun 2nd 2008 5:28PM
I forgot to add.. blocking Chinese IPs from connecting to US/Oceanic/European servers
Gwwwfps Jun 2nd 2008 5:48PM
...and the gold farmers with their VPN connections laugh triumphantly as real players who just wish to play the game in English get locked out of their accounts. Again, thanks for being so considerate.
Jerks are international in nature, gold farmers and xenophobes are just two subtypes. Don't be either, they really really don't need more members.

...and also expats living overseas for business. Thanks for considering them too.
uncaringbear Jun 2nd 2008 7:19PM
All it takes is the mention of the word "China" in an article, and five seconds later you have your ignorant and racist comments. Gratz on failing at life.
Dready Jun 3rd 2008 2:02AM
Did they down him in greens and blues like they did Illidan? ;)
Grats nonetheless! A huuuuge accomplishment! :)
