Wrath bestiary reveals the Magnataur
The official Wrath of the Lich King website has had its Bestiary updated. What's the new addition? Magnataur! They seem to be centaur on steroids, essentially. An amalgam of a giant and a mammoth, these guys do not look (or sound) small whatsoever. They're also described as fairly vicious, and their description lets us in on another fun blast from WoW past - the return of kobolds! You no take icicle? It sounds like the two races have a fairly symbiotic relationship, which should be an interesting dynamic to follow.
It's mentioned that single males control 'giant herds' which makes me a little curious about how big these guys can really be if they want to represent that in the game. The zones are supposed to be bigger in Wrath, but big enough to accurately represent massive herds of Magnataur? Maybe, maybe not! I guess that we'll see in time.

I'm wondering if the males will be elite and the rest of the pack normal then if theres only one male. or just a few lvls difference like the clefthoof bulls of Nagrand? like you said. i guess we'll see in time.

They remind me more of pit lords.

In WC3, they were basically a slightly modified version of the Pit Lord model with a new skin. About the same size, too.
Culhag Jun 5th 2008 4:59AM
Yeah, they definitely look like pit-lords.
schwonga Jun 5th 2008 12:02AM
Yeah they have the same kind of "i'm a giant animal with a humanoid stuck on top" look of the pitlords, but its kinda hard not to look similar when ur that big.
Also, how many characters-looking-up-the-loin-cloth pics u all think Blizz is going to have submitted? Its too obvious for ppl not to really... not that I would... thats gross... your gross!

If they do that, I just know someone's gonna be asking for shots of the females.

In that picture it almost looks like two disembodied troll arms pushing against a gorilla-giant.

anyone else using the Bestiary updates as a way to see when the expansion is coming out?
looks like its halfway done!

Heh, I just had the same thought.
I'm also really curious as to what these "Darkfallen" are. They are apparently something completely new. Judging by the name, it would imply some corrupted version of.. something. To me, the name suggests something similar to Dark Elves (which are also part of Norse mythology) and D&D's Drow.
Or, alternatively, they may be something like the Faceless Ones.

When you are Exalted with these, you'll get your title "magna cum taure" ;)

You no take Arctic candle!
Charlie Jun 5th 2008 1:03PM
Awww you stole my line.
anyways the quote for the lazy:
"Despite their hostility to most races, the magnataur have become tolerant of the arctic kobolds, who follow the herds for safety and mutual benefit during long hunts."
Ugkul Jun 5th 2008 11:15AM
"It's the same mobs you saw from 1-40, except they're now level 70+!!!! How exciting!"
Saphia Jun 5th 2008 12:49PM
Probably the same idea as killing Bach'lor or Banthar in nagrand. Elite, followed by toadies.

Be tee dubya... Magnataur in DotA = awsome. Cleave is rediculous
