Testers wanted for new iPhone Armory application
Elad Shahar, a student at University of Massachusetts Lowell, has developed a web interface that will allow you to search the Armory on your iPhone or iPod touch's MobileSafari. He's released a new version today, polished to the point where he's looking for people to help him test the application and to offer ideas and suggestions.
iArmory lets you do the searches you'd expect -- by player or guild -- and serves up results in a clean, Apple-like format that's designed especially for the iPhone's screen. The one catch is that the Armory has been stripped of its images, including items, tooltips, and fancy borders. What you get is a simple text display of the information you searched for. You can see images of the interface on Elad's website, Omen of Clarity.
So, if you are, you know, hip enough to own an iPhone or an iPod touch (which I'm, uh, not), and you are reading this post (which means you probably play WoW), then get your Armory-lovin' self over to Omen of Clarity's contact page and volunteer your services as a tester. Git, I said!

Or you could download the Winforms app version of a program I wrote a long time ago to do pretty much the same thing, only it also calculates things like average item level, etc.
and it comes with source.

Ummm, with an Apple iPhone you can already view the Armory.
The point, Eric, is that this is a streamlined way to do it.

Yay for my alma mater! You don't see that too often on a WoW blog/forum. :)

"So, if you are, you know, [stupid] enough to own an iPhone"
Fixt yet again. Honestly, why would you pay that much for a device that doesn't have 3G capabilities. 3G has been out since 2001 so it isn't like its a brand new technology. Oh wait, it's made by Apple, that makes it all okay. I wonder if current iPhone users are going to QQ again when Apple releases the 3G version....
peaglemancer Jun 4th 2008 4:22PM
Way to go with the pointless iPhone bashing out of nowhere! Aapparently the only one QQing here is you for some unknown reason.

We all knew a 3G iPhone was coming this year. Nice try.
No way I'm going to jailbreak my iPhone to test an app that has a web interface already. I see no point.
Mike Schramm Jun 6th 2008 12:20PM
Just to clarify, this app does not require a jailbreak. It's a web version of the armory, just quicker to load and designed specifically for the iPhone.
Gimmlette Jun 4th 2008 4:50PM
Does this mean The Armory is up and running flawlessly, that it won't still have people in my guild who have not been there in 2 months?
Kryptonls Jun 4th 2008 5:21PM
That guy has some really weird character names...

As an iPhone user and wow player I've used this app already and been chatting via e,mail to the author. If you're interested, give it a try and give him some feedback. As a community we should be encouraging this type of development.
I expected to see far more off-topic Apple bitching, perhaps its too early in the day as there are only a few troll in the comments as yet.
