First of all:
We already have a Dota "style" battleground. It's called AV. Sure there's only one path instead of 3, but that's beside the point. Splitting up the paths just means that the teams are even LESS likely to spend time doing what they should be doing: PVP.
And I think the entire article is misguided. The developers said the battleground "(is) set up as sort of an attack-defend scenario; features siege vehicles, and (has) destructible building components." What that tells me is more of a one-sided assault, similar to the game modes in recent FPSs like DoD, TF2, etc, and that's a good thing. When BGs turn into AV, where entire games become hinged around who can race faster, the focus on PVP is lowered.

Actually, AV isn't like DotA. It doesn't have successive waves of NPCs that do the fighting for us where heroes (us) would help tip the balance. The NPCs that used to exist before didn't have that function.

The mobs in Dota only serve as a method for levelling. When people max out, the creeps are largely ignored and are just cannon fodder. The problem with WoW is that everyone's already max level.
The bigger problem with a Dota BG is the fact that it's much more likely going to be exploited into an honor race. Both teams passing eachother down the middle, straight into eachother's bases, killing towers. What's the point when you've already got AV?

The problem with AV is that the opposing teams are to far apart. You run past the horde and never see them again. This is because Horde and Allies are not fighting over the same objective.
Now lets say one person has to get 10 HKs before they can summon a siege tank. This forces PvP on the players since they are fighting over the same objective. After that you can push, destory a tower, and move to the next (in a dota like scenario you cannot kill the back towers before you kill the front ones.)
Anyways, I don't knowa bout you guys but although a WoW style DotA BG sounds awsome? SCII Dota is going to be SWEEET. (yes its possible, they have already confirmed that your going to be able to design one in the map editor, even though there are no "hero" classes in SCII, infact it can be even more complex)

You've never seen race conditions in Dota? People can kill your towers while you're killing theirs you know.
