WoW Insider is looking for a shady, sneaky, back-stabbing columnist

WoW Insider is looking for a new writer to be our Rogue class columnist for Encrypted Text. Every week you will dazzle our readers with your words of wisdom covering everything from leveling guides to raid tactics to PvP strats. You'll explain the difference between dagger builds and mace builds, how to spend those shiny, shiny Badges of Justice and which Poisons are right for the job.
If this sounds like the chance you've been waiting for, you'll find all the information you need to apply on our applications page. Be sure to submit everything asked for. Being able to follow simple instructions is part of the job (think Flame Wreath). You have until end of day, Tuesday, June 10th to send in your app before this message will self-destruct.

He got stabbed in the back:)

I was wondering why there was no new rogue stuff. Surprising considered anyone reading the forums could probably come up with quite a bit of material. Even if it's just a weekly filler column bitching about how vanish is STILL broken

Hi, you're wrong.
With enough hit and haste a rogue can easily pull off a a 2s/5r rotation on non static fights. On fights with a lot of movement (and aren't farm content) the rotation varies as you want to make sure that you have enough snd time between movement phases.
As for pvp, the rogue who specs masses is the rogue who either is begging to be cc'ed (assuming they went 41 points into combat) or a rogue who is going to be energy starved (assuming they didn't touch the first couple tiers of assassination). These days it's shadowstep or Mutilate (if you have the skill/ping to pull it off) or nothing.

am i fired? :(
lordlight Jun 4th 2008 11:46AM
Ummm... can we get a new pally guy. I'd like to see more stuff on The light and how to swing it and from what i read about the blogger, he already blogs several other things and is prob too busy for us lowly pallies.
Ilnara Jun 4th 2008 11:52AM
Heres the problem as I see it.
1: Rogues are a dime a dozen, about as bad as Huntards.
2: Are only played by noobs who can't hack playing real classes and need to sneak around and gank people to feel like 'big men'.
Rogues, the noob, dime a dozen class of WoW.. who needs blogger for that?
Shadow946 Jun 4th 2008 12:04PM
You see it very wrong then. Don't come here to troll your pathetic gripes about a class. Learn to play the game and accept all classes as 'real classes'.
Falcio Jun 4th 2008 12:34PM
Isn't the fact that Rogues are a dime a dozen...a good reason to have a column? You know, to improve the class?
What are the other "superior" class columns meant for? Ego-stroking?
Ilnara Jun 4th 2008 2:15PM
I see truth must hurt.
Here, you want the basic of what any Rogue column would be.
1: Stealth.
2: Avoid classes that can out tank you.
3: Only attack Clothies, because they can't do anything to you.
There, I just wrapped up the Rogue class blog in an eternal nutshell. There is absolutely nothing else you need to know about that noob class.
vlad Jun 4th 2008 4:45PM
i smelz a bitter scrub that gets pwnzed by lots of rogues
Ilnara Jun 4th 2008 5:45PM
Well Vlad, your comment shows exactly what most rogues understand about balance in this game.. it's no great feat to understand that rogues are way easier to play that most classes. Especially Cloth classes.
I mean, if us Mage's are so great, then go roll one chief.
Lars Jun 4th 2008 5:49PM
You obviously know very little about rogues, Ilnara. The most popular style of rogue is combat, and often they won't even bother with stealth. Going toe to toe with a tank, they will most surely win. I prefer playing a tank, and I admit that. They have so much avoidance that their weakness is actually clothies that can blast them from afar, fear, etc.
Rogues were overplayed in WoW's early days for sure. Used to be Chinese gold farmers always used Rogues and gave them a bad rep. A lot has changed since then (and a lot of class balancing). Also you're complaining about Rogues being too popular, while WoW itself is the most popular MMO 10X over... shouldn't you be complaining about WoW too? But you seem to be a player so you're quite the hypocrite.

I love my rogue. I wish I was more WoW savvy, then I'd apply :)
Amtracker Jun 4th 2008 12:26PM
Id like to see Vulajin do it. The guy from Elitistjerks that created "rogue 101" guide. http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t16940-roguecraft_101_a/
Lucsoke Jun 4th 2008 2:25PM
The Roguecraft 101 thread is dated and obsolete. The correct link is below also by Vulajin.

Given the amount of underperforming Rogues I've come across lately (they're supposed to be the highest DPS in the game, right?) a new columnist is most definitely needed.
My question: How much does it pay?
JPN Jun 4th 2008 2:19PM
I love my rogue but I can not get into all that damage spreadsheet/coefficients/math. zzzzzzzzz I played enough math video games in elementary school...(Number Muncher what??)
