MazzleUI updated for 2.4
Some of you may remember me gushing over MazzleUI back in the day, when it first came out of private beta. In short, it's an extremely coherent and well-designed UI compilation, that aims to be lightweight and efficient while still being complete and feature-filled. However, its long-suffering author, Mazzlefizz, quit WoW at a certain point, and MazzleUI started to become plagued with incompatibilities as WoW went through its normal patching process. No more! Docevl has come and rescued this lovely UI from the dust, and it's now all patched-up and ready for 2.4.2. I just installed it myself and it worked pretty faultlessly.
Of course, I did have to bring over a few AddOns from my previous UI (13 of them, in fact), since Mazz isn't meant to be all things to all people, and I have several that I've gotten very used too that aren't included (like MetaHud and TBag). And there are a few things you'll probably want to change from the default configuration:

And there are a few things you'll probably want to change from the default configuration:
- Set the text size to Large or Mr Magoo, unless you keep a magnifying glass by your monitor (or it has fewer pixels per inch than mine).
- Be sure and prevent it from yelling garbage about "mazzlegasms" (seriously) by setting the appropriate menu to "Bite your lip and keep it in" at the end of configuration. Those around you will thank you.

I used Mazzle for a while, but found it slowed my aging computer down a bit too much - when I get a new PC I want to give it a go though, so glad to hear it's being updated still!
And the advice about turning off the "Mazzlegasm" thing is very true, I was standing outside the mailbox in Orgrimmar when I let that thing go off - very embarrassing!

I wouldn't want to use the MazzleUI in case it decides to take a long hiatus from updates again, but I'm extremely interested in the full-body 3D party bars. Anyone know what kind of party frames that is?
Eliah Hecht Jun 5th 2008 3:12PM
Those are Mazzle-custom, I believe, at least the 3D model part.

I believe that the full-body 3D bars in Mazzle were coded by the developer - no one has managed to get them out on their own, unfortunately, because I want them too :(
The only near equivalent I can find is the 3D portraits in Pitbull, but it's not really the same.

If you're a coder, it's fairly trivial to replicate them - you just need to find one of the other UIs that has an option for 3D portraits, and change the default camera in the code to full-body, then overlay a static 2D image of a pedestal behind that.
I did it a while ago after I got hacked off with MazzleUI (hint - you know how you can turn the Mazzlegasm off now? You didn't used to be able to) and it turned out to be about 5 minutes' work.

Ahem. Apologies for the awful grammar there. "used to be able to", indeed.
And - if enough people want 'em, I'll look into coding a lightweight addon to give the 3D portraits.

I used mazzle for a long time. About a month ago I got sick of the lack of updates and decided to switch. While I am happy to hear it is being updated again, I am very happy with my new UI. Now I am using ArkiveUI. It was written by a long time Mazzle user and it acts very similar. It is much cleaner and if you simply add a few extras like baggins and metahud you're good to go. I actually like it much more than I ever liked Mazzle.

thanks for the heads up. I've used a cobbled mazzle for a while now, having used wowace, and wow matrix to update and re-configure addons that didn't work or look so great.
actually, some of the things i never liked about mazzle, e.g. the chat panes and buff/debuffs (both of which i'd 'fixed' myself) appear to be layed in the same way i'd implemented myself, in arkiveUI

Switched to Mazzle way back, right before TBC's release, and I've never looked back.
Tried a few others during the brief time Mazzle got borked by 2.4, but swapped back immediately when the patchwork got fixed.
Nothing beats MazzleUI in my book.

I've been monitoring MazzleUI since it's been in beta. The date it was released was the best day of my WoW life - everything was perfect, after minimal configuration. I've been using it ever since, and while the lack of updates until recently are a bit deterring, it's back and better than ever.
MazzleUI is hands down the best UI I've ever seen or used.

Well maybe I am just having an attack of the stupids today but I cannot for the life of me get this to work.
I'm following all of the instructions but I WoW still thinks there is a dependency missing, namely mazzify. It is a pity cause I want to give this a whirl. :(
If anyone out there has a magic fix (or just something to cure my attack of the stupids) please let me know!

I've got the same issue.
Looks like a great UI, but only thing loading is bongos. May have to look into ArkiveUI

I'm having the same problem.
Knower of all Jun 13th 2008 4:00PM
you need to download the add-on pack for it.

the only problem i have with mazzleUI now...is the "automatic" way that it does the buttons, granted they were great for me before (heck...i stopped becoming such a clicker thanks to that actually) but since then i have gotten an N52 speedpad,....think im gonna stick with my overloaded selection of mods :p

I've never been a big fan of MazzleUI.
Sure, it looks pretty, but a) it's a huge shock going from what you had to someone else's UI. It can be hard to wrap your head around. b) I thought it looked very cool at first, but quickly got sick of it. c) I'd rather just add my addons together. It may be slightly more time consuming, but it creates a UI I like and does what I need it to do.
I suppose if you don't know anything about UI's or addons (I don't know much beyond how to install them, myself) it may be an awesome service, but I am not a fan.

Is there an easy way to backup by current UI completely before trying Mazzle? Is it as easy as creating a backup copy of the my active "Addons" folder? I'd imagine that would work... that I could create a copy called "Old Addons" or something and then, if I don't like Mazzle, just delete the Addons folder and rename the backup to "Addons" again, right? Someone stop me if that's wrong.
Eliah Hecht Jun 6th 2008 7:02PM
Yep, that'll work fine. But make sure to do the same to your WTF folder as well, since this contains all your saved variables.
