How to get Wowhead tooltips in Google Reader

An ode: Wowhead tooltips, O how I heart thee! I wish...eth I wouldst to be able to carry thou aroundst in mine pockets. (Did people even have pockets back when they went around saying thee and thou? Mine coineth purse?) Anyway, the point is: we love Wowhead tooltips because all it takes is a mouse-hover to find out everything you want to know about an item mentioned on WoW Insider or other websites. And now that you've gone ahead and put WoW Insider on your Google Reader, you can take the next step to get the nifty little tooltips in to show up in your RSS feeds.
Here's how:
- Get the latest version of Firefox.
- Get the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox.
- Restart Firefox.
- Install the Wowhead script for Greasemonkey.
- Right-click the monkey icon in the bottom right corner of Firefox and click "Manage User Scripts." Click "Add" twice and enter the following URLs:

Handy, thanks for that.
Works perfectly

Could not get it to work.

Is there a way to do this with IE?
Natalie Mootz Jun 7th 2008 1:27PM
Sorry, IE doesn't accept extensions. Any Mozilla-based browser will take them, like Flock, not just Firefox.

Thanks, that made my life just a little bit easier :)
Needed to restart Firefox to get that working.

Wow, great stuff! Thanks so much Natalie. I've been wondering if there is such a script for some time now, but was too lazy to look for it =)
And for the script to work you'll need to refresh Google Reader if you have it open already.

Thanks for the tip! It works now :)

Thanks! :) Now I can finally see the items in Google Reader without having to open the article in a new tab.

You're welcome! I'm so glad you all like it. I think it's very handy.

Anybody knows how to get this running on netvibes?
Tried to do the same as with google viewer, but it just doesn't work out =/

Not even a link to the blog you got this post from? I see the Google Reader screen cap, but... geez.

Hi Matt, but I beg to differ. Under the "Source" link, the same page is linked. Apologies to Elad if that was unclear.

pfft, Opera for the win. Nuts to Firefox.
Matt Jun 7th 2008 5:27PM
I've never noticed the Source link before, and you're quite correct that it goes to the source post. I'll be more diligent in looking for it from now on.

You can use the same method for your forums too. Just add the link to the "Included pages" with the star.

I just got this working in Opera, thanks for the inspiration. I downloaded power.js from Wowhead into a dir for custom scripts, mine was c:\power. I then renamed it to "power.user.js". Then from Opera when on the google reader page, right click, select Edit Site Preferences..., click the Scripting tab and on the box at the bottom labelled "User Javascript files" click the "Choose" button and select the aforementioned directory from the file browser.
Now I can has WoW Head tooltips in Google reader. I'm pretty sure from the general Advanced preferences one can set this directory for all sites so get wowhead tooltips on any website.

you can make this script work for ANY page on the web just by adding that web site's address in the same manner above. What you have to pay attention to is the address of the website you want to add. In the case of netvibes I believe the link you use is something like
http://www.netvibes.com/myusername
so to add netvibes to the list add the root domain address:
http://www.netvibes.com/*

Awesome tip! (and I never noticed the Source link either, another great tip lol)
btw, is there any way to get the Wowhead tooltips to work on a Proboards forum? I can't for the life of me figure it out. Is the solution to just not go with a free forum?
Thanks!
