Poll: Are you looking forward to WoTLK more than you looked forward to Burning Crusade?
So recently, Tobold was saying that excitement around Wrath of the Lich King is visibly much less than the excitement that led up to the release of Burning Crusade. People are tired out by the 2 year wait, WoW isn't innovating, WoW isn't adding the content fast enough: there's just so many reasons that the Wrath of the Lich King is being greeted with ennui instead of excitement. My first thought upon reading that: Wait, people aren't excited over WoTLK?
For me, I have to say that I am far more excited for WoTLK than I was for the Burning Crusade. Yes, BC had the prospect of finally being able to play a male elf who actually looked graceful and elf-like. You know, without hands that looked like seal flippers. It also had a journey to Outland, where we would able to meet and interact with many of the heroes and locales of Warcraft II, as well as Illidan and his lackeys, Kael and Vashj. So yes, there were a few reasons to get excited.
However, I'm practically drooling over Wrath of the Lich King. I'll get to play a Death Knight, which is the class I wanted to play when I first heard about World of Warcraft. We'll see the continuation of some of my favorite storylines, such as the mystery of the Titans and the Earthen, The Missing Diplomat, and the saga of Tirion Fordring. We'll see the Forsaken fighting and possibly poisoning the alliance again, the Warsong clan being belligerent again, and fight against wave after wave of Scourge, maybe even back by the side of the Argent Dawn. Inscription will give us a wider amount of customization over our characters and the way they fight, with the barber shop and dance studio letting us control their look and feel.
Seriously, at this point, if you added player housing and an outfit system, WoTLK would be close to my perfect expansion. Then just pump out content and let me play an Ethereal at some point, and I could die happy.
Honestly, if there is a drop off in Wrath of the Lich King enthusiasm, it will be mostly fixed at the end of this month, when the Worldwide Invitational goes down. There will be playable WoTLK and developer panels, and with any luck, we'll get a massive infusion of fresh new information just like with the last Blizzcon and we'll really be ready to go. All we really need is a little bit of information, and it will come out how excited people are about this.
But anyway, I'm curious, am I off here? I know I am looking forward to WoTLK far more than I ever did Burning Crusade, but I am alone in this? Those of you who were around before BC, are you with me?

Yes i'm more excited for WOTLK than BC, because the latter was just a bunch of failures after all. The horrible raidsituation at release, the welfare pvp epics, almost one fucking year without serious content upgrades(wtf?). And since Season 3 the unbalanced arena. I suppose WOTLK is blizzards last chance to keep the hardcore(read: not the casuals for whom the game really has improved) to play this game. However, if they fail the game is probably doomed without the pro's i forsee the motivation for the casuals to be lost.

"However, if they fail the game is probably doomed without the pro's i forsee the motivation for the casuals to be lost."
Casuals will be fine, by definition they don't care about hardcores, because they are casual about it.
Eh? Jun 8th 2008 10:43AM
Wow....full of thyself much?
Don't worry about the "casual" crowd, I'm pretty sure they won't notice the "hardcore" crowd's passing. That is, assuming that actually happens.
My prediction is it will very likely just be more business as usual, with better graphics, creative questlines, and more cool people to play the game with if they would just come down off their soapbox and realize they aren't God's gift to videogames.

Death Knights will be "teh awesomesauce" for me, definetely. I'm also most excited about barber shops... (orcs with stick beard + mohawk in gray hair FTL)

I was still levelling my first char at the time when the build-up to TBC was going on, so I didn't really know much and it wasn't a big thing... 10 more levels and all that.
Now I have some established characters, I can't wait to see what wonders LK will bring us and how it will revitalise the current game we have been playing for the last 18 months.

Same, I was levelling during the BC build up so I was pretty busy. I guess I'm a little more into WoW now more than back then.
Unagieater Jun 7th 2008 11:20AM
I was level 19 when BC came.
koblec Jun 7th 2008 11:28AM
Yes, because of the new class. Plus I didn't start playing till the week after BC came out.
Alchemistmerlin Jun 7th 2008 11:29AM
I'm more excited for Wrath because there's a slight chance I'll actually manage to level a single character high enough to see the wrath content before the next expansion.
God we need some sort of Altaholics Anonymous...

Reasons i'm looking foward to WotlK:
-New hair cuts
-new dances (come on robot)
-new spells and talents (sadly my pally usally gets fewer spells then any other class)
-New content
Why i'm not looking foward to it:
-all my epics become replaced by greens and blues
-the plauge of noob death knights
-relvling all my professions
-all my current rep becomes useless
-no new midlvl love
So i'm torn right now for the xpac.

When it was first announced, I felt kind of meh about it. (Partly because I was really hoping for a Maelstrome expansion) But nowadays, I'm much more excited for it than I ever was for BC.
Varus Jun 7th 2008 11:33AM
It'll be more of the same.
10 new levels, x new factions to grind, new badges to collect etc. Everything from BC will be in the WOTLK but a bit more accessible and bit more easier.
This is not to say any of the above is bad, but DK's are the only "new" feature I'm looking forward to - and it seems they're turning out to be just another normal hybrid class.
Again, not saying the above is bad or that the sky-is-falling-omg-I'll-quit...but they haven't really announced anything earthshattering.

Voted no because warhammer is coming and I'm lucky to beta test it since a year, even if the new WOTLK content sounds great with one class in more (to not say nothing..) and PVP events that looks like an attempt to dupe the Warhammer system, I'm more excited on War release than WOTLK, even if I know I will have both.
F0REM4N Jun 7th 2008 11:57AM
I too am torn between Warhammer age of reckoning, and Lich. I will likely attempt to play both, although two monthly subscription fees might be too much for me.

I am totally excited, and with a hunter main I am soooo hoping for many interesting pets, and abilities to pet families, like was promised more than two years ago Also, as an altoholic across several servers, I am excited that there will be a way to get a fairly high level toon to twink some of the neglected lowbies. I just hope Death Knights are easily soloable, because on all but my main server, I solo all the time.
Combatc87 Jun 7th 2008 11:49AM
I am looking forward to it more because I didn't raid much pre-BC. For that matter, I didn't do much of anything pre-BC, hitting 60 just a few weeks before launch. Now I have gotten more into raiding and theorycrafting, so the new talents only excite me more because I can see what benefits they will bring, and how it will change up class strategy.
Zhalseran Jun 7th 2008 11:53AM
I would say without a doubt I am more excited about wrath than I was about Burning Crusade. When BC launched I had only been level 60 for about 4.5 months. I was still fairly "new" to the endgame, and honestly I was not very well versed in strategy or theorycraft or class mechanics or much of anything really, and I didn't even really know or care about BC until I saw the new Rogue talents and trees on the official site.
Now I've had a level 70 for about a year and a half, not to mention the fact that I have 3 other level 70s, and 2 more in the 60s who will be 70 before WotlK no problem, and I have even switched my main. I know a whole lot more about the game and how everything works, and I'm just lapping up the information. I even have a placeholder character so nobody steals my DK's name, because I'm becoming more and more sure all the time that my DK will be my new main.
Laiho Jun 7th 2008 12:08PM
I'm really looking forward to this one :) I stopped playing WoW for a nearly a year now, but I'm starting again and WOTLK will be great for mages !!!
JParris Jun 7th 2008 11:59AM
I'd say yes. For the most part, I am equally excited (which is till to say really excited!), but the addition of the DK class makes this a more desirable expansion for me. Plus, Northrend is larger and, from what I've seen, more visually interesting that Outland. My explorer's heart is all about it!
Lunati Jun 7th 2008 12:07PM
Honestly, I didn't like the concept of burning crusade that much, I started long after the initial launch, but it was still a big deal to me. Just... so many demons, so many "desolate destroyed whatever" that it just drove me nuts. The endgame is nice, and enjoyable, but after all was said and done most of the zones you avoided completely after you blazed through them while leveling.
I'm hoping wrath will fix that, at the very least it'll bring back the old azeroth feel, which is what made me actually like WoW, if everything was like Outland, I honestly wouldn't have gotten into the game.
