Part Time Druid fights WoW apathy
It's that time again -- we're in the slump right before the expansion, when people get bored of playing, no one wants to reroll another character because new options are just around the corner, and there's a general sense of apathy around the game. Why play what we've got when the new and shiny is almost here? Fortunately, this time seems a little better than last time -- lots of guilds are still rolling through the endgame, and there's still lots to do, from Arena to battlegrounds to reputation and daily quest grinding.Fortunately, Part Time Druid has some good ideas about how to "fight WoW apathy," just in case you can't think of any yourself. PvP and money farming are in here (those are goals that are practically never ending for sure), and the time-tested idea of going back and finding refreshment in an old alt is a good idea as well. But there are some more original ideas in here as well: helping out lowbies (whether they be 16 or 61) is a good idea, and organizing for five mans might be the best idea. With the daily Heroic quest, there's no better time than now to find four friends who want badges and gold, and set up a regular weekly or even daily time to run a Heroic instance.
Let's be honest: we're going to at least be waiting a whole summer for this expansion, if not a few months after that. Might as well make the most of it -- set some goals now and get productive (or go try out Age of Conan, we're not picky), and the boat to Northrend will be loading before you know it.

Wait...
"...get productive [and find other time sinks]"?
Am I actually reading ways to *avoid* wanting to take a break from WOW before the expansion? Isn't a break a good thing? Isn't the period prior to an expansion the best time for that, when you're naturally feeling the urge anyway to step back from it for awhile?
How about it's summer time? Go swim outside? The frozen throne will be there when you get back, and at a very fitting time of the year.

How many players do you need to raid Outside?

I love it how there are so many comments about "apathy" setting in and there's nothing for anyone to do except grind the old content over and over again while we wait for the expansion to come out. Seriously, does everyone playing the game have the Sunwell Plateau on farm and full Season 3?
Aside from the hardcore raiders who seem to play the game 24/7, there's a huge amount of content still waiting for the majority of the playerbase. My guild has just started making decent progress in Karazhan so we have 90% of TBC's raiding ahead of us - enough content to keep us busy until long after the next expansion is out.

If you are only on Karazhan at this point, you probably won't get much further.
As the summer goes on, less and less people will play.
With S4 gear also, most people will stop raiding and just PvP.
You have to understand, the majority of the playerbase doesn't want to deal with the absurd 25 man requirement and gearing those players during the summer and also right before and xpac hits.
Blizzard took too long to bring out new content for the majority of the players.

Antiquity said... "Blizzard took too long to bring out new content for the majority of the players."
I'll ask again: does everyone have the Sunwell Plateau on farm and full Season 3?
The majority of players probably aren't even level 70 and haven't done the bulk of Outland's instances. For them, there's a huge amount of content still to see.

you bring up a very valid point...It's probably not safe to assume that the bulk of the players are 70 and bored. Last time i checked, there hasn't been a vast migration of peeps off my server...the same o`folks are still raiding, questing, etc. Most the top end guilds are still around (save 1), and i still see pops in trade chat for BRD, SM and ZF.
On one of the other servers i play on, im in a guild of over a hundred peeps who are average lvl 30. there's only 4 70's in the whole guild ( i xferred my 70 over, so he doesn't count). and im having a blast helping out all the lowbies. It brings back memories of a time when i was a fresh 70 and i was hopping all over the place in our growing guild, answering questions and helping out on those difficult 'group' quests when they cant find the toons at their lvl to assist.
so aside from my severe alt-itis (lvlng another warrior so i can use all the epic 2h'ers i collected over the years, another shammy, etc.) this has been what keeps me busy...that and lvlng on a PvP server. So those are my ideas, aside from helping out lowbies...switch server types for a fresh change of pace, or try out a new class type, or perhaps even a similar class type, but different build for lvlng.
Course, Having sever alt-itis i'm never really bored. others always an alt on another server thats just different enough to tinker with for a bit, or theres that dungeon i wanted to run on toon X on server Y...
Oh ya, for those that also have the resources, and dont have any odd moral arguments against it, should try dual-boxing. been doing it for awhile now, and brings a whole new element to the game. Get together with a buddy who does it and you can almost run a whole instance (level appropriate) just the two of you (currently do it with 2 buddies, 2 of us running 2 boxes, one sticking to the tank role).

First, thanks Mike for reading my blog, and liking the post enough to feature it on your site. You really help out a blogger like myself when you do that. :)
As far as my article goes, it's not about fighting MY apathy towards WoW, it's about fighting the apathy around me. We lost a handful of people to AoC, and it was getting more difficult as of late to get groups and raids off the ground. I still love the game, and my article is about finding ways to enjoy myself or keep the game going, rather than get despondent if I can't find the people to run Heroic MagT or something like that. Of course, I should add that many of those people have already soured a bit on AoC, though I'm not necessarily surprised.
Anyhow, thanks to anyone who has given my site a look because of this, I appreciate it!
