Starting from scratch with two weeks to Season 4

At any rate, now is the time to plan for Season 4. If you haven't already started, it might be a good idea to bank some Arena points. With two weeks of point gains to go, that means players currently with 0 Arena points can theoretically obtain a maximum of one Season 4 Arena piece as the gloves cost 1125 points and, more importantly, require no personal ratings. Players will need to earn about 563 Arena points for the next two weeks to earn enough to purchase the item. This means maintaining a 1788 rating in 2v2, 1722 in 3v3, and 1671 in 5v5. It's not an easy feat, but for those who are only starting to save up Arena points, the reality is that it's an uphill climb. No matter how good you are, it is impossible to amass 5,000 Arena points in two weeks.
It's also always best to be capped with Honor points at 75,000 when the Season begins, allowing for the purchase of Guardian items. But not everyone has banked their Honor points these past weeks, and even players who have face the restriction of personal arena ratings. But take heart -- although some items will require personal ratings, the belts and neck pieces do not. A Guardian belt costs 17,850 Honor points and 40 Arathi Basin Marks of Honor while the amulet costs 15,300 Honor points and 10 Eye of the Storm Marks of Honor. Those two slots are the quickest ones to fill, even for those who have never set foot in Arenas (or have no plans to).
Players starting at 0 Honor have their work cut out for them, but it's not impossible like obtaining 5,000 Arena points. One would need to obtain roughly 5,770 Honor points a day for the next thirteen days in order to have maximum Honor by the time Season 4 starts. This can be done by doing the daily PvP quests as well as cycling through Battlegrounds for all the Marks of Honor. Concerted Efforts and For Great Honor are extremely efficient means of rapidly acquiring Honor points. It's even faster when you win all Battlegrounds, netting roughly 1,000 or more Honor points per cycle.
On the other hand, moderate targets can be set if players are only looking to get the personal rating-free belt and amulet. For the next thirteen days, players only need to hit a casual 2,550 Honor points daily to have enough Honor to purchase the belt and neck piece -- a total of 33,150 Honor. It will be the Warsong Gulch holiday weekend this coming June 13-16 while it will be Arathi Basin for the weekend prior to the launch of Season 4. You won't particularly need Warsong Gulch to purchase the belt and neck piece, but the extra Honor will help and you'll need the tokens if you want to do Concerted Efforts or For Great Honor. The announcement of Season 4 should see a mad rush in the Battlegrounds for last minute Honor grinding as well as extended Arena sessions for teams pursuing end-of-season rewards. Good luck to everyone, and happy hunting!

Wait, besides the rings, boots, belts and bracers, for the BG gear, will there be new weapons and armor (shoulders, chest, pants, etc) too?
Manatank Jun 11th 2008 3:44PM
Yes
Sparx_Shammy Jun 11th 2008 3:48PM
Yes there will be,it will be Merciless Gladiatior gear replacing the normal Gladiator gear.
brittwilson Jun 11th 2008 3:49PM
Yes the season 1 gear that is currently available for honor and marks will now be replaced by season 2 gear. For the same price...... I think.
Lynyrd Jun 11th 2008 3:47PM
Whew, okay good. I was going to be upset, after saving up all those marks and 75K in honor points if there were no new weps, etc. Thank you Manatank
brittwilson Jun 11th 2008 3:47PM
Its no surprise to me that they release the new 40k trinket, THEN announce season 4 quickly thereafter. Money sinks before the expansion, honor sinks before the new season. Good thing I didn't fall for that trap like a lot of people I know...... my pvp character will thank me in 2 weeks.
Den Jun 11th 2008 6:47PM
What do you mean? The trinket has the biggest single upgrade of any S4 item. 22 resilience is massive considering you will gain 0 from the rest of the set.
brittwilson Jun 11th 2008 8:50PM
I don't mean its not worth it by any means. I mean its no coincidence that they released it right before announcing season 4, so most people sunk over half of the max honor you can have at one time into an item. I think they are trying to fanangle us into not hoarding our points for the beginning of the season, and let the gear filter into the ranks, instead of everyone walking in with everything they could possibly purchase on day one.
Its the same concept as the "moneysinks" they have talked about, it try to keep the hoarding of gold for Wrath down. The Shattered Sun name you can buy is an example of that. A place for money to flow out of the system.

I know what you mean about money/honor sinks and such, but you called it a trap :-/
Personally I thought it was good, as that is 40k I don't have to farm during next season, I can do it now when I have time and break up the grind a little bit =D
If you were at cap when the trinket was released you could pretty much make up the 40k by only doing the daily BG quests.
kormiku Jun 11th 2008 11:19PM
I bought the 40k trinket with no regret. I figure i will get a LOT of use out of it even through wotlk content. Lots of people still use the 5minute trinket which was from before BC.
I was using the 5 minute trinket, but when I saw the epic trinket with 40 resilience and 2 minute cooldown, i peed my pants and grinded honor for 3 days to get it. It was well worth it.
biglou Jun 11th 2008 4:36PM
Whose upset...not I...., ive got 70+k honor, 3k arena points, and about 350-375 marks. I wouldnt call that "from scratch". I would call that a marked head start over most of the players who weren't planning ahead. C ya in the killin fields :D
Quickshiv Jun 11th 2008 6:45PM
Ya but how many LPS and void crystals do you have? What about cobra scales/nether cleft and primals? I hope you thought well ahead because Ill be gouging your butt on the AH this week :)
biglou Jun 14th 2008 10:55PM
@quik
I was good on mats til last night when I decided to look for golden spellthread in anticipation of new legs...OUCH! That hurt.
Procris Jun 11th 2008 5:08PM
I'm not to worried about the honour but being the character i play at the moment is alliance and they rarely win battlegrounds, the marks are annoying and time consuming to get. If i could get a decent arena team on my horde priest life would be so much easier.

Remember that if you really are starting from scratch, the Vindicator items (neck, ring, bracers, belt and boots) will be available during S4 for a reduced honor cost (same as Veteran's currently), and with no personal rating requirement.
Also, if you don't expect to get a 1700 rated Arena team (inc. personal rating) buy your Veteran's Band before S4 hits as it will no longer be available, and may be your best chance to get two PvP rings.
Samedhi Jun 17th 2008 3:03PM
I don't think what you said about the Veteran's Band is true. Veterans items were introduced in S2. When S4 starts, all S2 will be purchase using Honor Points.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh and personal rating requirement for Guardian's Finger is 1650, not 1700.
arb Jun 17th 2008 3:14PM
Sadly you're wrong. Only the Merciless gear will be available for honor in S4. As you know, Veteran's and Vindicator's are currently available for honor. As from S4 only Vindicator's and Guardian's will be available for honor, as per posts from Drysc.
Ross Jun 17th 2008 4:13PM
Hi Arb,
Question on the Vindicator set remaining available. I'm fairly new to PVP so I may be missing something obvious but as far as I can tell from my visits to Champion's Hall, the only Veterans item that is currently available is the ring, with neck belt boot & bracers having been replaced by vindicators. Is that true or is the entire veterans set still available?
Likewise, when S4 hits will any vindicators gear other than the ring still be up for sale, or will it all be replaced by Guardians? Given that the guardians ring boots and bracers all have arena rating requirements, i've been scrambling to get the vindicator versions before season 4 hits... but if I'm missing something and they will remain available, i'd love to know where to get them.
Thanks!
arb Jun 17th 2008 4:37PM
Yes, all Vindicator items will be available in Season 4. To quote Drysc again:
"Yes, the Season 3 honor items will still be available for purchase without a rating requirement after Season 4 starts.
There will be two sets of "non-set" items once Season 4 begins. The Season 4 honor items (boot/belt/bracer/etc) some of which will require a rating, and the Season 3 items (boot/belt/bracer/etc) which still won't require any rating.
Just to sum up, when Season 4 begins:
Season 1 honor set: Removed
Season 2 arena set: Moved to honor, no rating requirement
Season 3 non-set honor items: Staying
Season 3 arena set: Arena rating and cost requirements lowered
Season 4 non-set honor items: Added with rating requirement
Season 4 arena set: Added to Arena with increased rating requirement"
