WoW Moviewatch: Opening of the AQ gates
The process to open the AQ gates takes months, so obviously, the anticipation was intense when the time finally came. Hundreds of players were there, anxiously waiting for the moment to arrive. However, the person who was to ring the gong couldn't even do it without crashing! Then there was the blinking and falling ... You never forget your first, though!
[Thanks, Drewbie!]

Nostalgia injection plus a good laugh.
Thanks Macheath.

For the record, Macheath does about 99.997% of the work. And Drewbie and the rest of us do the other 0.003% of the work. I wouldn't call him a partner so much, at best he's our PR agent.
It's just frustrating to see Drewbie's name everywhere and the rest of us (except Mac) receive almost no recognition. I understand that it's probably just because Drewbie is active in the machinema community and the rest of us are not, but I think you can see where I'm coming from here.
Drewbie's probably going to be mad at me now. Sorry Drewbie!

You know why Drewbie is mentioned here all the time? Because he's the smartest one out of all of you. If none of you are going to make machinima under the Oblivious Films name at this time, then he's doing the next best thing.
Drewbie is actively contributing to the greater machinima community. He's providing voiceover work to fellow machinimators, AND he's always suggesting videos to me. I see him as a great asset.
Sick of seeing only Drewbie and Macheath being mentioned? Get off your ass and do something about it.

This is an ongoing debate within the thick, thick walls of Oblivious Films, from whence no sounds escape: who deserves credit for what? Obviously the answer is NYNNJA, but I indulge the rest of them in their perpetual arguments and reassessments, which rise and fall as the months pass like some great and terrible tide, in spite of my knowing the inevitable conclusion. Forgive Gnorlin for his outburst; he only gets worked up about something once or twice a year, and it's usually fun to experience.

That night was horrible on Proudmoore... errr Crashmoore.
But oh it was sweet to see those giant Anubisath and it was even fun to be squished by one.

I was a little sad I missed these events because I joined after they occurred. I also missed the opening of the dark portal for TBC. Hopefully, there will be an interesting world event for Wrath.

Keydar creator of Dark Legacy Comics has an interesting screenshot from as well as a great strip documenting AQ on that night http://www.darklegacycomics.com/23.html

This is one of the big WoW events I missed, /wrists.
The cursed raiding guild with ze key to the gates opened them in secret, never telling anyone the exact time.

Man that brings back so much. I think that the opening of the AQ gates was so much better than this SSO crap. Most every profession had turn ins for it, the questline, while enormous was amazing and involved every raid instance in WoW. It involved both factions working together, such as the downing of Eranikus in moonglade, in which I think there were 3 40ish man alliance raids and 4 40ish man horde raids there. It was truly an epic questline. And then after the gates opened, there were huge Anubisath all over to raid and kill, which dropped amazing loot.

I actually play on malygos and I remember the opening so well. I think we sat there for 2 hours waiting for the person to ring the gong because every time we turned around he was getting disconnected. Frame rate was horrible and general chat was filled with a lot of talking.

I love every bit of it. They made it a real epic time in the game. It wasn't just a town and a land where it was going to be opened. They had a huge increase in guards. They were in different formations, riding in and out of town. People were working together to accomplish the goal. Horde generals and Alliance generals were there.
It was just a really cool time in the game. I hope they continue doing stuff like this every year.

One of the best things about leveling my characters on a post-BC server was that when someone transfered in right after the lockout on transfers ended and opened our gates (Because there was no way any of our fledgling raiding guilds at the time were going to make their own scepter. Most of them could barely get organized enough to run Kara at the time.) I was able to see it happen with none of the lag. I can't imagine what kind of chaos that event must have been like when it was first being done, though that video does give me a pretty good idea.

Drewbie...still trying to get famous thru others. I wonder if he still uses dry-erase boards to track his raids.
Amrod-yes that one
