Paladin offers gold for public service
WoW players have been known to spend quite a bit time donating to charity. Salahdin of Underscore on Lothar has come up with a unique way to encourage that public service. Though he doesn't outright say he's suffering from pre-expansion burnout, Salahdin does say that he doesn't play like he used to. And, he's got extra gold sitting around. With that in mind, Salahdin found a unique thing to do with it. He challenges folks to get a picture of themselves doing charitable service to others. If you can't get a picture, write a 100 word essay about what you did. Post it to the forum, and he'll reward you 100 gold in game. His premise is that instead of grinding gold for an hour, he's paying you to do something good for the world.
It's a dang impressive idea, and I wish I had the extra cash around to do it myself. While the cynic in me worries that this might not be for real, the starry-eyed optimist is grateful to see a little goodness from this little corner of the world. I hope he gets a lot of people taking him up on his offer.
[Thanks, Abdul!]

I take it that entries are limited to the Lothar server?

Nice idea until some morons exploit it by lying.

I've been thinking that since I read the story, actually.
Although, to be honest, it may be obvious to some extent. I'm sure Salahdin will know that "I rebuilt New Orleans by hand" or "lol i cured cancer" are utter crap.

Most people that play WOW should stay in their homes no matter how much good they are doing.

We do this stuff all the time. We're a BT raiding/community guild that has charity drives for low level characters on mal'ganis... usually holding them twice a year.
The one last week was our 6th I believe. The amount of crafted and farmed items we give out is astonishing. Feels good too.

Great idea. Recently i've felt that i'm wasting tons of time doing dailies in the obsension to get every alt epic items, epic flyer, etc. I'd rather do something useful for the 10+ hours a week i normally spend doing dailies (recently i decided to scale back to 1 hr of dailies and 12 hours of raiding).

That's a really good idea. Kudos to him, and to chorizo's guild as well.

This is against the TOS. It is in effect, no different than buying gold. Since a service is worth money and they are effectively exchanging the service for WoW gold (explicitly against the TOS).
But then again it just goes to show how stupid and unenforcable such terms in the TOS really are.

Salahdin gains nothing from the exchange, so it isn't against the TOS. If they were building him a house, that would be different. He is just rewarding them, sponsoring them, more or less, much like a church feeding a group of hard working volunteers.
Make the world a better place.

Frump, are you a lawyer? He doesn't have to gain a benefit for it to be against the TOS.
But who cares, this is one of those great ideas that ultimately makes people think - if you're in a privledged place in society, are you giving back?
