In general, on a new boss, wear your mitigation set until you know the fight. On old content you're overgeared for, wear your threat set, or even dps gear.
And listen to your healers. If I whisper my husband, a feral druid, that I am doing *nothing* but renews, PoM, and dispel magic on the Prince Fight, he'll change some gear. Another Kara run, a warrior, T5ish gear, was dying and the healers were getting the blame, until I asked if he was wearing his tanking gear. "Nah, I didn't think I needed it." Even after the fourth two-shot death?

I do not reccomend giving advice when you evidently haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about.

You make a good point. Your husband obviously knows that for the most part he needs all the mitigation that he can get. This PuGed tier 5 warrior assumed this was "only Kara" and didn't take into account who was healing him.
