As long as people can be rational adults and agree to disagree, I don't think there's a problem with discussing "hot button" issues. I, personally, am fascinated by the different ways people approach Deity or spirituality or even lack thereof.

Unfortunately, there are a lot more people (not just Christian) that want to force everyone into their mode of belief -- whether it be religion, politics, or favorite sports team.
