Breakfast Topic: Saving quests
In the weeks previous to the release of the Burning Crusade some of my friends were considering saving up a number of quests to turn in once the expansion hit to boost their leveling toward 70. At the time it seemed absurd. You may have a bunch of quests to turn in, but they'd be all over the map, that's what questing was like back in the pre-BC day. I just wanted to get in and get through the Dark Portal.
It may be a viable strategy once Wrath of the Lich King comes out. Taking a look at my alts, some of them still have tons of Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley quests. Since it takes 779,700 experience points to go from level 69 to 70, I suspect it'll be around 850,000 to get from 7o to 71. This meas a log full of 25 shiny, complete quests at 10,000-15,000 XP a pop will take you nearly half the way to the next level.
It's not something I'd do on my main character, but I would consider it with an alt. What's your take on saving up quests for quick WotLK XP?

I do quests because I like to, and...
- you get to know the new environment
- you probably get some rep with a new faction.
- don't wanna miss out on the stories.
- extra money for those quests at 70

It will probably take 1,256,500 XP to reach level 71.

I dinged 70 last night and my XP bar showed 1,256,500 as the next level, I started to think max level was 70.99 since this was my first 70

"Since it takes 779,700 experience points to go from level 69 to 70, I suspect it'll be around 850,000 to get from 7o to 71."
Blizzard have indicated that 70-71 will be significantly more than 69-70, more like 1.2 million xp if I recall correctly. Quests and mobs in Northrend will give correspondingly more xp, much as Outland mobs/quests do. This is intended to push people into Northrend to level up, rather than camping out in Shadowmoon, etc until 72-73.

I've got a few saved up, just because they don't give enough g right not to make it worth while doing. I'll probably knock them off when wotlk comes out just because I like doing quests and seeing the content, and it'll get me started on the xp train again.

I can see the theory of it and it makes sense given that it's pretty easy to hit 70 without having done much of Shadowmoon Valley or Netherstorm. But... when there's a brand spanking new expansion sitting there waiting to be experienced, I don't think I would have the staying power not to jump straight into it at 70, even with my alts.

If you have post-poned going to Outlands as long as possible and dinged 70 somewhere in Nagrand or BEM, and you have both SMV and NS full of quests left, you could either ...
1) save both and get a good hop towards 71, though you probably won't ding from it. It's a headstart though if you wanna be one of the quick levelers in your guild. It also helps if you want to post-pone going to Northrend as long as possible, for the same reason you do / did so with Outlands.
2) do them all now for gold. Once you can level over 70, you can't do that exp = gold conversion again until you reach 80.
3) do one zone for gold and save one for exp.
Personally I sucked at leveling when I leveled my main and thus didn't get to save anything (also messed up my rep). If I were to level a new character though, I'd probably do the first. When exploring a new area with an undergeared character (which my alt would be) it never hurts to "outlevel" the mobs a bit.

I think you at wowinsider are running out of subjects, as nothing new and interesting is happening in wow..
What an unusual idea, to save up quests to get some xp when Wrath comes, whenever that will be! Why bother when there are lots of dailies to help you level to 80?
You'll need millions of xp to level, and I think Blizzard will want to slow down leveling as much as possible, because I doubt there will be any other expansion after this one. Level 90 sounds to much.

Found this quote from Drysc on the subject:
"Possibly, we haven't announced or even decided on anything final whatsoever, but it really doesn't matter how much the XP curve is increased. The important factor is how much XP you'll be getting from the quests and kills.
You can make the bucket 10x bigger, but if the water filling up the bucket increases comparably then it's really no different. What that does though is makes older water sources less desirable to fill your bucket from."
As you can see, they will be actively discouraging people from levelling via Outland quests by making it inefficient to do so.

Not concerned with leveling quickly. Unless the changes are absolutely major compared to Hellfire I'm not even sure I'll set foot into Northrend for a few days to let the bulk of players roll through first and make questing easier. Am not really part of the crowd who thinks the game only starts at the levelcap and tries to rush there quickly.

One other option is that when WotLK comes out, spend one night doing a zerg run through Kara and ZA. Not only will full clears net you 35 badges - good for a couple of epic gems or the last bit to get some really top-notch leveling gear, it should be a very nice chunk of XP - even more if for whatever reason you and your buddies have to wait a few days to start up (say, waiting on collector's editions or mail-order versions to arrive.) I know my own raid group could get through both in less than 4 hours, so it should really not be any kind of impediment to your main Northrend leveling experience.
Swiss Jun 17th 2008 9:24AM
I don't think you get much xp while in a raid group... I recall running AQ40 with my guild while we were all in the leveling grind from 60-70 and each kill we got was only ~100xp. This was with a full 40 man raid group.
Manko Jun 17th 2008 10:11AM
In my experience, the only way to get quick XP in an instance is to have a high-level run you through it. Any group killing mobs outside will get XP at a lightning pace with no downtime at all.
Wulf Jun 17th 2008 8:50AM
Even if it would make much of a difference to levelling i wouldn't do it. There's a whole new ton of content out there to explore, 'nuff said.

My idea is to complete 25 quests *before* the expansion and leave them in my quest log (complete), handing them in once I install the expansion and then going straight to the new areas.
No idea if this works as expected though...

You could always just get a full boat of dailies to turn in, that takes 20 minutes at best and their xp is just as good as anyone else's.
Hank Jun 17th 2008 11:03AM
I have a feeling that the dailies will be reworked to give significantly LOWER XP than you would get from any other quests, even those in Outland. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the SSO dailies vanish altogether, and some regular quests take their place, so they work like other faction grinds that have dungeons (but hopefully they won't work like that horrible Thrallmar/Honor Hold grind, where dungeons stop giving rep at Honored).
Netherwing is a single-reward grind, Ogri'la, SSO and Skyguard are 'level-up' grinds (where the rewards you can choose vary depending on your standing with them) just like the other BC factions.

I dinged 70 about 3 weeks ago. When it happened I had an experience bar that went to around 1.2m xp. As soon as I quit and relogged the bar had vanished.
I wonder if the xp's I would have been earning since then have been inlcuded on this bar in the background getting me to an xp away from L71 ready for the expansion?
Even so, a list of 25 completed quests ready to hand in would be a step on the way to L72, although only 1/3 of the XP bar.
