Neth expounds on beta criteria to test WotLK
We're all understandably hyped for Wrath of the Lich King, and a lot of us are watching the leaked alpha testing information closely. Forum-goer Zaggaroth is looking a little more forward. He's asking the question: How do you get into the closed beta testing?Nethaera steps in to answer his question, and shed some candlelight. Blizzard pulls its beta testers from "many places." Some folks win a contest, others are random, while still others are the result of specific targeting -- they want that particular demographic of player represented in the testing. They don't pick only the most experienced players, which makes sense when you consider the game's for everyone and not just the elitest of the elite.
Neth wraps up her posting by saying Blizzard's not yet determined if there'll be some kind of application for the beta, and that it'll all depend on what the developers want when that time comes around. I'd guess they've done some thinking on this subject. But in some vocabularies, alpha testing just means "a development phase." We're probably still a little ways off from the closed beta.

Well idk ,considering things as they are now,and how the big focus of blizz is just to leave everything that made wow great behind and just go ahead with the "lolesport" thing, wouldnt the demographic of players for the beta be like 50% arena playes,25% casuals,25% raiders and -5% old pvpers.

When writing articles such as these, a link to the actual post would be helpful.

If you level a character in the beta, collect things, learn recipes, etc - what happens when it goes live? Do you get to keep the items, recipes, etc???

Honestly, I'd rather read about the Beta than play it.
There was something really awesome about installing BC and opening that first screen fresh and with only the faintest idea what the changes would actually feel like. Getting hit with the opening chords of the revamped intro music, creating a blood elf and exploring the new starting areas hearkened me back to when I first started the game. It was a humongous blast.
But it wouldn't have been the same if I'd been testing all of that a month or so beforehand. The intro song, the zones, the feel, none of it would have been new. All of the environment would already have been stripmined in my quest for bugs and issues.
Therefore I salute all of you who will go into the beta in my stead. By your brave sacrifice you're allowing people like me to save and savor the content.
/salute

i agree. If the beta keys we got at BlizzCon end up being for Wrath, I'll be e-baying them.

FYI, that fish is a betta, not a beta, and its not even pronounced the same. Image fail.
