Upper Deck announces new loot items, including an Ethereal vendor pet

- The Path of Illidan, which is a super common loot card (like the Pet Biscuits), and will enable players to leave glowing green footprints around Azeroth and Outland as they walk around.
- D.I.S.C.O., which creates a disco party anywhere, along with a disco ball, lights, and music.
- And finally, most interesting, the Ethereal Soul-trader, who is a full-size Ethereal as a pet. Additionally, this card is actually a whole slew of items in one -- the Soul-trader will give you currency for creatures killed while summoned, which can then be traded off for other prizes, including special foodstuffs, a special alcoholic drink, a ball of energy (to throw in people's bags and play catch with), and even the Ethereal's outfits as wearable items.

Woah, that Soul Trader is incredible! I think we've just seen the new loot card that will sell for more than the Blue Book value of my car.
Mimzy Jun 18th 2008 2:35PM
.... I want. I may actually have to buy the cards to try and get that Ethereal pet. That, or bite the bullet and buy it from E-bay.

That DISCO ball looks like a blast. I can definitely see dropping it during phase 2 of illidan.
Zumwalah Jun 18th 2008 3:03PM
the Path of Illidan should totalle be called the Boots of Azinoth

I wonder how big would Doomguard boots be.

"Each experience-granting mob downed while the ethereal is active will give the player an amount of ethereal currency from the joint business venture, which can then be spent with the Soul Trader for fun cosmetic items and upgrades!"
So....useless at 70? Or does it still apply?
The costume pieces aren't as cool as I would have hoped.
nav Jun 18th 2008 4:30PM
Still applies, along with other items that only proc off enemies that grant XP or honor. It operates if the mob would grant you XP if you could go up a level basically - so it's not grey.

Wait, so the owner of the Ethereal pet can use it as a mobile junk vendor as well? I thought the TCG loot wasn't supposed to give an advantage to game mechanics to players who own them?
BigD Jun 18th 2008 8:40PM
Looks like its different currency so probably not gonna get gold from it but who knows.

no you CAN'T vendor anything to or from this vendor!!!!!!!!!

Am I the only one rather annoyed by these TCG items? It seems only just a step away from all those MMOs that have shops that charge real money from items. In many ways, this seems worse to me.
Just because I don't want to dish out extra cash (In some cases, thousands of dollars even) on cards means I don't get access to all this really fun loot. I suggest all of these items be obtainable in the game somehow and not just from TCG loot cards. The achievement system would be a great way to do that I think.

My wife and I play the WoW TCG. She doesn't play WoW itself at all, but likes building decks for the TCG. We were lucky enough to get one of the rocket mounts in a booster pack and I'm currently using it in game. We're not 'farming' boosters or anything like that. It's a happy surprise. It's like getting a blue world drop. Most of the TCG loot cards are fairly worthless. I've got a couple that do things such as give me a tabbard, make non-combat pets bigger and such. The only one I've ever turned in is the rocket mount one (which cost 200G and requires the epic flying mount skill), because I needed an epic flying mount anyways. In all that time of getting these card, we've only gotten one 'good one' and several of the 'eh' ones.
It's not like there are 5 in every pack.

Yup, I'm with you Rovec.
It's a bit two faced of Blizzard to have one one hand, a carpet ban on using out of game resources (bannable offence) and on the other give you an out of game resource...

It is somewhat annoying to see people acquiring cool, fun items to use in the game that are simply inaccessible to those who don't want to play the game or spend stupid amounts on ebay.
Everytime they come out with a new erlease the items are better and even more desirable. At first it was a turtle mount a tabard and a chair essentially(i think). Then it was a full speed spectral tiger, rocket mount and stuff.
I find it frustrating that there's stuff that i'd like but i just can't get at it.
I kind of got over the collectors editions and convention things but the trading card game is starting to effect wow a little too much, why should someone that plays some other game get a pair of boots that leave footprints behind when my Dreadsteed doesn't for example? Why should they get a "Soul Trader" when my exalted with the consortium level 70 can't?
They might seem like silly complaints but it's annoying to see rich people running around flaunting stuff you simply can't sensibly get at.
Oldmaveric Aug 23rd 2008 5:33AM
QQ more Bliz has always had more for the people willing to spend more time or money on there stuff you don't like it gtfo
rosencratz Aug 23rd 2008 1:28PM
@ Oldmaveric
Cheap expressions like "QQ moar" make for poor substitutes for actual arguments and the term "GTFO" is the worst.
I shan't "GTFO" despite the fact that i don't like it... get over yourself.
My point is being rewarded for being a richer person in real life is not what WoW should be about, rewards for time invested is one thing but money invested? Wouldn't it be quicker to set up a "bribe your local GM for epixxx" system?
Expansion packs are one thing but being rewarded for being wealthier is contrary tot eh community spirit that any self respecting MMO should be about. Wealthy people already have access to the new multi-boxing craze that seems to be getting more and more common, surely that's enough?

"They might seem like silly complaints but it's annoying to see rich people running around flaunting stuff you simply can't sensibly get at"
WORD.
I'm not spending my money on TGC loot, cuz i dont have any. i think you should be able to get this stuff in-game just as Rovec said earlier.
anyhoo.... anyone here selling the rocket card? =)
i keed! i keed!
