Breakfast Topic: Your memorable PvP battles
Cyanrose of the World of Warcraft Livejournal community recently regaled us with a tale of one of his most excellent World PvP exploits. Running around Hillsbrad on his level 26 Warlock, he heard a familiar sound that strikes fear into the hearts of almost everyone who's every leveled on a PvP server: the sound of Stealth.
Turning around, he came face to face with a rogue -- one high leveled enough to sport a skull on his level indicator. Somehow, he says, he managed to get off a lucky Fear, and after a frantic bit of running and free application of Curse of Agony and Corruption -- or thrown copies of Illidan and Akama's swimsuit issues, if you believe him -- he got the rogue down. Apparently, this rogue then proceeded to call in a bunch of his guildmates to tear apart Tarren Mill in search of him, but by then Cyanrose was swimming down south of Southshore, laughing over his unlikely victory.
This story got me thinking of some of my own unexpected, funny, and epic PvP battles.
For example, once, when I was a young Tauren hunter of about 42 levels, I was off in the south of Stranglethorn Vale hunting Elder Shadowmaw Panthers for a pair of gloves for a guildmate. I'd just finished off my latest panther and was getting ready to skin him, when I heard a rushing sound of a Warrior's Charge. Suddenly, I was being pounded upon by a level 39 warrior and and his level 40 rogue friend. Sure, I outleveled them, but not by much, and with the double team, it looked like I would go down quick.
But I said to myself, I said: Self, not today. I sent my pet vulture after the rogue, and laid down a set of Wing Clips on my attackers. Somehow, I managed to get away enough to lay down a Freezing trap, which trapped the warrior handily. With a bit of quick kiting and some Raptor Strike jousting, I was able to get the rogue down. I set another trap, this time a Frost trap, and the warrior walked right into it. I bandaged myself up quickly and set upon the warrior. Like before, I stuck with a bit of kiting, using Concussive Shot when it came up, keeping Serpent Sting going, and ending with a bit of jousting. The warrior died too.
Feeling cocky, I sat down, ate, drank, and then rushed back to the valley where I had been fighting the panthers. The very next one dropped the last skin I needed, and I headed back to Orgrimmar in triumph to deliver the finished gloves to my guildie.
That's just one of my stories, but it sticks in my memory. Yes, I was (slightly) higher leveled than they were, and yes, they probably could have gotten me easily if they were a bit smarter, but I still got double-teamed and lived to tell the tale, and I'm still proud of it.
How about you? Whether they're from Battlegrounds, World PvP, or Arenas, I'm sure all of us who engage in the pasttime have those battles that we like to tell friends about or like to cite as examples of why we love PvP. Whether epic, amazing, or just amusing, let's share them in the comments here today.

Probably a WSG that lasted over an hour in which we ended up winning after being 2 down. :) Very, very tense.
I was so worked up, and just before bed time, so it was very difficult to get to sleep for a while.

I love the big win-against-impossible-odds victories. I've had similar WSG victories. I once had an AV where we were down by 100 reinforcements and pushed back into our base -- a small group snuck out the waterfall, evaded the Alliance and got Balinda down to even things up, and then we slowly won by attrition.
The best thing is the change in BG chat. When it looks like a loss is inevitable the chat is full of 'Give up so I can gets mah honor!' messages; when it looks like things are turning the chatter turns into 'Fight! Fight! Fight!'

I had an epic, all night lasting battle that took place on my Bleeding Hollow server at Tyrs Hand before BC. My holy priest and my rogue friend camped four horde all night, literally for six hours. they would not leave! they were determined to kill us but my rogue friend had some kind of energy bug that was glitched with adrenaline rush so he had a constant 110 energy. we have always referred to that night as 'the sleepover'

I like how you gave up on PVP after failing at two of the best classes for it...

I once had this 30 minute hibernate fight with another druid in Ferelas. Was quite entertaining.

I guess it's more of a story of epic fail, but when I was being hunted by two lv 40-ish Alliance on my hunter (mid 30s at the time) who was grinding the yeti cave in Hillsbrad, I managed to frost trap them (and their mounts) long enough to make it to the edge of Tarren Mill, where I got pounded into the ground right before I could reach the relative safety of the guard's aggro range.
I've also had an UT-style "Denied" flag-steal where I was in the enemy flag room on my druid, and I cycloned the enemy flag carrier jumping off the balcony (cycloned in mid-air looks cool by the way) and took their flag so they couldn't score.

way back in the day, back when getting exalted with frostwolf clan was a major feat, i went to stv on my UD rogue -- my very first 60!! -- to have a little fun with my new purple dagger (its name escapes me now). i found a full party along with a smaller group of allies questing along the rogue, all of whom i managed to take down easily, albeit nonchalantly popping all of my cooldowns (vanish, prep, blind, sprint, etc). basking in my glory of taking down a barrage of 8 or so gnomes, humans, and night elves, i didn't bother to bandage, eat or drink but rather danced and gloated like the hero i was in my own mind.
along came a level 40 hunter. he caught me unstealthed and sent in his gorilla (or whatever specie he may have been). unarmed with any of the tricks up my sleeves, this night elf kited me to oblivion, a cocky rogue 20 levels his senior.
although i didn't come out of this as unscathed as i should have, this was definitely my most memorable and humbling pvp experience.

My favourite are the ones when you get jumped, when fighting a mob.
I remember being in desolace on my rogue, fighting a mob. I got jumped by a warrior, and it was looking pretty bad.
I killed the mob, Just as I was about to die, and gained a level from the experience. With full health, I managed to take out the warrior, of rougly the same level and move along to the next target.
Great when that happens :)

I remember going into AV at level 65. It was instantly apparent that every other person in the place was level 70 and I was going to be as much use as a chocolate teapot.
I decided the best thing to do would be to take the Snowfall GY and stay there. Anyway when I arrived the allies had been and gone so I claimed the GY and planted a freezing trap, fired of flares and waited.
After a while a 70 ally mage came along. I blew every trinket and BW etc and much to my surprise I was left standing and he died!
I bandaged myself and very shortly he re-appeared! Now I was in trouble as everything was on cd.
Anyway I set my pet on him but it was obvious I was a gonna so I feigned death as a last resort. For some reason he didn't realise that with my pet hammering him I must be FD'ing and started trying to kill the pet. Anyway after about 30 seconds when his health was low I popped up and killed him again!
Now I knew I was in trouble if he came back as had used up all my tricks!
Sure enough he turns up for the third time. Unfortunately for him at that moment the graveyard turned over to the horde and the guards instantly pwned him!
Still makes me smile to this day!

Being a 61 prot pally in Hellfire, I was doing the quest for the Cenarion Outpost where you kill a hellboar, when I 63 hunter tried to kill me. I ignored him, killed the boar, and handed in the quest, all while he's beating on me. Then, I bubbled, healed, and proceeded to beat him slowly into the ground.

That hunter clearly never heard of Viper Sting. That's really our only weakness against hunters, but it's a pretty big one,

My wife, a long-time Mage, recently rerolled Priest. At level 61 she entered Warsong Gulch along with my 68 Warrior and 8 random folks. The idea was that I would run the flag and she would heal me... but, as often is the case, someone else (a Shaman) grabbed the flag first.
My wife dutifully chased this Shaman across the field, trying desperately to both heal him through massive damage AND keep up with his ghost wolf form. I was still across the field, having stayed behind to Piercing Howl the Alliance GY and cause general mayhem (and also to grab the next flag). Unexpectedly, however, my wife and the Shaman flag-carrier were ambushed by a Warrior/Hunter/Priest trio inside our base. The Shaman line-of-sighted his healer and died almost instantly.
This is where my wife's greatest PvP moment began... she Psychic Screamed all three attackers and snatched up the fallen flag. Concussive Shot kept her from capping before the Dwarf Hunter could pick up our flag. She then proceeded to kite and LoS THREE Alliance (all much higher level than her) for over 5 minutes (we know this because she used Pain Suppression three times and it had less than a minute left on cooldown when all was said and done). The WHOLE REST of our team was sitting idle, camping the Alliance flag room because we all expected this 61 Priest to drop that flag at any moment (including myself, I'm embarassed to say). We also expected the Alliance flag-carrier to be running into the room where our "trap" was waiting... little did we know that he was actually running around like crazy inside our base trying to catch this lowbie Priest who just... would... not... die.
After about 4 minutes of this I heard my wife holler "Can you PLEASE come kill this stupid Hunter?!" Thinking that I was riding cross-field in futility, I mounted up and headed to my lovely bride's aide. Hunter met Mace and my wife's Priest, who at this point had more than three times the healing of anyone else in that battleground, capped the first of TWO flag captures she would secure that game. The second, I might add in closing, was by running right into the middle of an Alliance turtle (using the speed boots), grabbing the flag, Psychic Screaming, and dashing out without a scratch.

I was playing my retadin alt in Ungro Crater a few months back. I was 1 quest turn-in from a ding. Close to the flightpoint I ran across a warrior that was Skull to me. I had seen him running around with a rogue earlier, killing things pretty easily, so he was at least 7 levels higher than me. I threw everything I had at him, used a bubble, used a pot, used lay on hands, was down to 7% health, then used my second bubble...ran to the quest turn in (5 yards from where we were fighting), turned in the quest, dinged right in there in front of him....and proceeded to wipe him out. It was pretty epic.

About a week ago in AV....It was an epic turtle...I finished with 900k healing, 260 HK's, and we won with only 13 points left. It was long but soooo much fun :D
William Jun 20th 2008 10:27AM
yeah, i hear you on the turtle AV's... they take FOREVER but tons of HK and stuff.

Questing with my human priest in stranglethorn at the beach I was attacked by an undead rogue around the same level.
Dot'ed him and ran out into the water, swimmed some time then poped levitate and startet casting mind blast/mind flay on him.
First he tried to reach me, but swimming he was to slow, after realising he can't reach me anymore he tried to flee to the land. He didn't even get near the beach ;)
I think he did never follow a priest into the water again!
