WoTLK to bring new emotes
I know I've complained a bit about Warcraft's lack of character customization, but I must say that it seems like they've been slowly but surely taking steps to make things better on that front. There's the dance studio and the barber shop incoming, of course, but here's another leak that's popped up from the Alpha: New emotes!
I know it sounds silly, but having pre-made emotes can really add to the fun factor of playing your character. Add them in macros (but don't spam them, that's just annoying) or use them to register your enjoyment, surprise, shock, or disgust at the situation. There's some really good ones in here that I've been wanting for a while -- although, word to wise, Blizzard: Facepalming is generally done with one palm, not two. I know you've seen the facepalm ASCII on the General Forums, too. Also, I would like to thank you for allowing me to finally act as my hero, Phoenix Wright, through the magic of emotes.
I know it's just a minor thing, but still, I'm looking forward to having a bit more variety in playing with my character in the social part of the game. Now if we could only get outfits and player housing too...

I really hope the retarded /ding command will be disabled on all RP realms. An emote that is out-of-character and thus violate Blizzards own rules for RP realms? Retarded.

I'm really wondering why this reply has been voted down, though I can't say I've seen /ding being abused too much.

Because it was a double post?

Finally FINALLY I get a /highfive

I'm pretty happy about this. I just hope a decent number of them have some animation, instead of being mere text.
Oh, also, I'm totally on board the /rickroll one. I needs that.

I hope that a lot of them have animation and voice.

I'm actually very happy that /facepalm is phrased right and not "/me facepalms" as I see a lot of people do. It's fine, sure, but if you're trying to RP, it definitely breaks your immersion (which to some people is a very important thing!).
Well, maybe they understand roleplayers after all!

I don't understand the outfit comment. Doesn't Outfitter do this for us already?
With regards to customisation though, just furthers my belief that SWG was ahead of it's time.

The idea with outfits is that you could have an "Outfit" layer to your gear that would be your appearance no matter what gear you really had on. So say, for example, you really like the look of Defias Leather. You could put a full set of Defias Leather on your "Outfit" layer and get that look, even if you were actually wearing full Tier 6.
Jamie Jun 22nd 2008 7:22AM
Ahh... gotcha. Not sure I like that idea myself..
Gulbrandt Jun 22nd 2008 2:29PM
Yeah, I'm not sure I like the outfit idea either. On old console games, I remember my character looking the same no matter gear I had on. I always thought it was sort of cheap and annoying, in a way.
WOW is cool because one's appearance changes with the gear, like one would expect. I think it was one of the many things that sold me on the game. It makes me look forward to improving my gear. :)
On the other hand, I do know a bit about unique character design. When I see everyone running around in S1/T4 or S2/T5, or even S3/T6 gear in Shattrath, everyone starts looking alike. There's that urge to want to keep *something* unique about your character, so you'll stand out from the crowd.
