Lord Ahune's loot table
Like Halloween's Headless Horseman, the Midsummer Fire Festival's summonable boss Lord Ahune offers a nice selection of epic loot, as well as some really fun vanity/joke loot to keep the mood light. Most of the epic drops from the Frost Lord are duplicates of old Badge of Justice loot to help save you a fair amount of badges, but there are also a few new, completely unique drops. From completely awesome scythes to the Frost Lord's personal booze, we have a full listing of Lord Ahune's known drops. Even if you're geared to the teeth from Sunwell Plateau, Ahune has something for you, though it might come in a form a little sillier than traditional equipment. Take a look behind the cut below to see it all!
Normal Mode
- Cloak of the Frigid Winds - This caster DPS cloak has stats identical to the badge loot Shawl of Shifting Probabilities. A solid cloak for an up and coming caster, and it will save you 25 Badges of Justice.
- Icebound Cloak - This tanking cloak has stats nearly identical to the Farstrider Defender's Cloak, but the Block Value on the latter is replaced with Defense Rating on the former, making the Icebound Cloak the clear choice between the two for up and coming tanks in addition to saving you some badges.
- Shroud of Winter's Chill - A healing cloak identical to the Bishop's Cloak, again saving you 25 Badges of Justice.
- The Frost Lord's War Cloak - Once again, this cloak can save you or someone you know 25 Badges of Justice. It is identical to the Blood Knight War Cloak.
- Hailstone Pendant - A strong tanking necklace, this is a good alternative to the Necklace of the Juggernaut if your Avoidance is solid but could use a little +Hit to give you an edge. Using this over the Necklace of the Juggernaut also saves you 25 Badges, which is good.
- Choker of the Arctic Flow - Identical to the Manasurge Pendant, this will save up and coming casters yet another 25 Badges.
- Amulet of Glacial Tranquility - Identical to the Necklace of Eternal Hope, this neckpiece can save your local healer (gasp!) 25 Badges.
- Amulet of Bitter Hatred - Physical DPS, Choker of Vile Intent, save badges, you know the deal.
- Frostscythe of Lord Ahune - With the large amount of Badge and PvP gear in players hands, it's likely that this staff is not much of an upgrade for most casters. That doesn't mean it's a bad weapon, however. Plus it looks absolutely incredible, and that's really the important part. This weapon also has a hidden Use effect: Right click on it when you have it equipped, and you'll start to feel a little chilly. Survey says this drops on both Normal and Heroic modes, but it may only be a Heroic drop.
- Formula: Enchant Weapon - Deathfrost - The Burning Crusade's answer to Fiery Weapon, this enchant is a very common drop. While shockingly cheap, it has questionable PvE viability. While the debuff does apply to raid bosses, it doesn't stack with Thunderclap or Curse of Tongues. Its PvP viability may be higher than in PvE, but if raiding is your game, then check out Elitist Jerks for the usual theorycrafting.
- Scorched Stone - Though more rare than the Formula above, it is still more common than the Horseman's Squashling, thankfully. Using this stone summons a vanity pet: A miniature fire elemental. Not only is he adorable, but he also occassionally sets nearby critters aflame.
- Huge Snowballs - They don't always drop, but when they do, it seems to always be two at a time. Roughly the size of a Pyroblast, these snowballs are impressive to watch arc through the air.
- Snowballs - The boring, mundane version of Huge Snowballs.
- Lord of Frost's Private Label - Not yet active on Wowhead, Lord Ahune will sometimes spawn a six-pack of... well, his private stock of booze. Crack open a cold one, and get crunked! Yes, I did just say 'crunked'.
- Pocket Full of Snow - You shouldn't be in melee range of Lord Ahune unless his core is vulnerable, because his attacks hurt a lot and you can't do much to him. If you do enter melee with him, you'll sometimes be hit with a pretty big Frost-based knockback. When you're hit with this, you get a Pocket Full of Snow in your inventory. Opening it up gives you 3-5 Snowballs. That's a lot of snow to somehow fit in your pants!

After tanking this boss about 8 times tonight, I noticed all the snow pockets in my bag. Figuring everyone had them, I started just opening them. A few seconds later everyone on vent asked me wtf I was looking. I guess now I know.

I did him about 15 times yesterday. We got the pet and the enchant once but no weapon, so I'm guessing its a lower drop than the rest of the items. All in all it was a nice little event, the first attempt was even a little crazy. ;)

Am I the only one who thinks that Icebound Cloak and Farstrider's Defender Cloak are *not* identical?
Paulringo Jun 22nd 2008 1:19PM
You are correct.

Agreed. As a Bear tank, I likes the Icebound one better. Hmm...wonder why. ;)

"That's a lot of snow to somehow fit in your pants!"
LOL, I love it.

I've seen people with a new midsummer fire festival tabard (I can't remember the name) and I've been told it drops from Ahune aswell. But due to a glitch it will only drop on normal mode.

it's because it doesn't let you turn in the quest series on heroic, and it's the quest reward from the end of the chain of quests, which you can only complete on normal after killing him.

The new cloaks (one reddish, the other light blue) are from the quest to kill Lord Ahune.

Actually, the tabard is a reward from the quest started by a quest item dropped on the first kill (maybe only heroic, dont know about that since we've only done him on hc).

What is the minumum level for getting the tabard?
mk Jun 22nd 2008 6:33PM
i got the tabard from doing it on heroic..

The Frostscythe of Lord Ahune is probably the most insane looking weapon in the game. Most wicked!

The tabards don't actually drop from Ahune, they're a quest reward for killing him.
CyCo23 Jun 22nd 2008 2:33PM
We killed Ahune 4 times last night (first pull was before most of us knew what what to expect). First cloak to drop was the healing one, then the next three were the DPS cloak that no one could've used.
We also had the enchant drop on the first kill.

Has anyone tried it on Normal mode pre-70 yet? I've got a 67 rogue, and I wanna try it if I could survive it.
Ormal Jun 22nd 2008 4:11PM
Probably not, unless you've got 4 Kara and above geared 70s as the other members of your group.
Ametrine Jun 22nd 2008 4:13PM
A Frost Lord... dropping Huge Snowballs... always in sets of 2.
Naughty, naughty, Blizzard.
