Level 80 legendary tabard spotted
Like Bigfoot, it's so elusive that photographs are rare, but some WoW players have caught a glimpse of what may be an upcoming PvP reward from Wrath. Or maybe it's just a bug. Or -- and I have a nickel bet on this one -- it's a nice little prank Blizzard's playing on us in return for our snooping around for information on the expansion. Whatever it is, though, it has left at least one footprint. We've gotten a few tips that upon inspecting a player's Tabard of Summer Flames, the Horde side reward from the Shards of Ahune quest, the tabard's tooltip describes a very different item called Tabard of the Victor. Even though the tabard's design matched the Midsummer quest reward, the description was quite different. First of all, the Tabard of the Victor requires Level 80, which was our first clue that it was probably not meant for pre-Wrath eyes. The tabard binds on pick-up, provides 250 Armor, +20 Stamina, +10 to All Resistances. Upon equipping it, your resilience rating improves by 15 and it increases movement speed and life regeneration rate. The funniest part -- and what makes me think this could be a prank by our dear game designers -- is the tabard's use is described as: "Use: Show how heroic you are! (55 Secs Cooldown)" and the bottom line description is, "The Mark of a True Hero." It seems that perhaps the glitch was caused by an error in the cache because when it was cleared the tabard's description correctly matched the Summer Flames tabard.

Now so much a prank I think. Look at http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28788 (Tabard of the Protector). I've seen this tabard in game and it has the same Use as the lvl 80 tabard above. I think this is an actual item, not a prank.

You beat me two it, Lidon. :) That's what I was gonna point out.
I think I've encountered 2 tabards with that effect. I have the Dark Portal one.
Heilig Jun 23rd 2008 3:39PM
Could also be real and limited time only, like the Tabard of the Protector that you could only get for fighting in front of the Dark Portal after 2.0 went live but before BC launched. The Use effect is the same.

The Use could be similar to the Use for Tabard of the Protector (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28788). Doubtful it's a prank, but I could see it being some future arena reward, or perhaps an Arthas drop? Who knows?

The Tabard of Summer Flames isn't a Horde reward for the quest. You have a choice between the Tabard of Summer Flames and the Tabard of Summer Skies (or something similar?) for both factions.
Natalie Mootz Jun 23rd 2008 5:02PM
Oo, thanks for catching me on that one, Jump! You are correct, either faction may choose either tabard. I must've been typing too fast. Either too much or too little caffeine. Heh.

As said above, the Tabard of the Protector had the same use effect, which made your character flex and radiate a flash of some magic or something.

Welfare legendaries.. it's not like we didn't see that one coming.
Oh come now, you were all thinking the same thing.
Alchemistmerlin Jun 24th 2008 2:40PM
God I hope so, every time a WoW-er says "welfare _______" an angel gets it's wings.
Frank Jun 23rd 2008 3:53PM
Obviously fake.
Nogun Jun 23rd 2008 3:58PM
Fake
Once a BoP item is equiped (and it is because that dialog box is not the Dressing Room) they say Soulbound not Bind when Picked up. While Tabards and Cloaks fall under cloth this is never displayed in the tooltip.
Miya Jun 23rd 2008 4:19PM
Not quite. If you inspect someone wearing a BoP item it will show binds when picked up just like the screenshot. Not that i'm saying i think its legit tho.

If this is really going to be an item, then woot for bear tanks, because that is like another 1k armor. Which I wonder if they are going to raise the armor limit, because I am getting close to 30k with just two T4 and badge loot (35k is not going to be easy, but definitely seems plausible)?
Asara Jun 23rd 2008 4:18PM
Also, I don't recall anything ever regenerating "life", don't they usually classify it as health regen, if it's there at all?

Runeblade of Baron Riverdare.
Matt Graham Jun 23rd 2008 4:21PM
Wow. Incredibly obvious fake. Tabards do not have armor types and will never have stats. I can't believe WoW Insider even reported on this.
um yeah Jun 23rd 2008 4:34PM
I'm sorry, Matt Graham - I didn't realize you had a magic crystal ball that sees into the future and gives you the information of every single possible thing Blizzard will or will not implement in future expansions.
What is the point of having wowinsider at all if we can just have omnipotent people such as yourself report all future information for us and dictate exactly what people should report on.
Natalie Mootz Jun 23rd 2008 4:59PM
Hi Matt, thanks for your comment. Several players have seen this glitch and taken screenshots of it after acquiring the Midsummer Fire Festival tabard quest rewards. It's clearly a cache issue. I don't think the images are fakes -- but whether the item will be real or not remains the central mystery.
Kemipo Jun 24th 2008 1:59AM
I have to agree with Matt. Things in the WoW universe will never change. Bags will never be able to hold more than 18 items. Sorry, no, 20 items... wait, 28.....
At leaste we know the Horde will never be able to play paladins and the Alliance can nver be Shamans.....oh, wait...
Well, we know that quests can only done once each, not repeated day after day.....
Mounts! can't get them until level 40 and they can't carry passengers. Ever!
Yep Matt, you are truley a genius in a sea of idiots.

Fake Tabard is fake. Look at the picture. It's for level 80, but he's wearing it at 70, and there isn't the +10 to resistances added to his stats in the picture. You got pranked.
