Level 80 legendary tabard spotted
Like Bigfoot, it's so elusive that photographs are rare, but some WoW players have caught a glimpse of what may be an upcoming PvP reward from Wrath. Or maybe it's just a bug. Or -- and I have a nickel bet on this one -- it's a nice little prank Blizzard's playing on us in return for our snooping around for information on the expansion. Whatever it is, though, it has left at least one footprint. We've gotten a few tips that upon inspecting a player's Tabard of Summer Flames, the Horde side reward from the Shards of Ahune quest, the tabard's tooltip describes a very different item called Tabard of the Victor. Even though the tabard's design matched the Midsummer quest reward, the description was quite different. First of all, the Tabard of the Victor requires Level 80, which was our first clue that it was probably not meant for pre-Wrath eyes. The tabard binds on pick-up, provides 250 Armor, +20 Stamina, +10 to All Resistances. Upon equipping it, your resilience rating improves by 15 and it increases movement speed and life regeneration rate. The funniest part -- and what makes me think this could be a prank by our dear game designers -- is the tabard's use is described as: "Use: Show how heroic you are! (55 Secs Cooldown)" and the bottom line description is, "The Mark of a True Hero." It seems that perhaps the glitch was caused by an error in the cache because when it was cleared the tabard's description correctly matched the Summer Flames tabard.

It could easily be display glitch. It doesn't actually do what it says but due to a glitch it displays different info. I am on the fence on this one. I am not sure if its fake or not.

A guildie of mine picked the tabard of flame to match his shaman tier 5. When he mouses over it it shows the Tabard of the Protector, with the above mentioned stats. The Use effect and stats do not get applied however, it's just a normal tabard.

Read the article before you post fake, please; that picture is not the actual tabard, it's a bug.
Matt Graham Jun 23rd 2008 4:42PM
Good point, "um yeah", why don't we just have omnipotent people such as myself report all future information?
Some things just don't change. Tabards will not have armor types or stats - ever. Also, they will not be legendary items. If Blizzard is going to implement any new legendary items, it'll be weapons and MAYBE normal gear, but not tabards.
peaglemancer Jun 23rd 2008 5:41PM
Uhuh. There will never be any epic tabards either. Oh wait.

And his screen shot. It's obvious it's just a bug where the wrong item is displayed.

Are people seriously still clinging to the false hope that there will always be some sort of constant in the WoW universe. If the changes in the game mechanics and lore over the past three years haven't taught you anything then...just wow.

That tabard is most likely from a private server, it appears on the tooltip because it is in his WDB files. BANZ HIM!
Sirg Jun 23rd 2008 4:50PM
It looks like it's made with that nifty site where you can create any wow-like item (tooltip).
This is a hoax, ofc. I can't imagine that you aren't thinking the same.

There was an april fools joke tabard several years ago, not too different from this one. It was called Tabard of Laos Flippor.
Natalie Mootz Jun 23rd 2008 5:03PM
Yep, Wussah. And if you click on the link I made for the word "prank" in my post, you'll see an article we wrote about the April Fools joke. Thanks for pointing it out!

This looks awfully similar to the old april fools tabard posted on the official website a couple years back...
my2cents Jun 23rd 2008 5:31PM
Oops, I suppose I should've read the post above me first lol
Thyhammerr Jun 23rd 2008 5:50PM
okay this might sound strange, but my health has increased by 200hp after i've acquired this tabard..
i've checked with all the buffs i have, the combat log and everyother thing but i can't figure out why i have 200hp more than i would've otherwise
Matt Graham Jun 23rd 2008 5:49PM
peaglemancer - I never said that there wounldn't be epic tabards. There are! They are from the TCG loot cards. You comment doesn't really make any sense.
Roflpanda Jun 25th 2008 1:51PM
Fake, this is on the available on the private server, Free WoW.
Quanta Jun 23rd 2008 6:31PM
It could be a developer prank, but it could also pass as an end-of-season arena award for the top team of each battlegroup when WotLK hits.
Kadathwack Jun 23rd 2008 7:57PM
This sounds more like a GM-only item to me. There's a handful of them, some Legendary and some Artifact, that people have seen and dug up on private servers. And they, for the most part, are ridiculously overpowered because there's no reason for them not to be.
Short of killing Arthas, and maybe being the first group to do so, I can't think of anything that should really deliver a legendary, stat-conferring tabard into player hands. They're meant to be purely cosmetic things.
Leviathon Jun 23rd 2008 11:39PM
Could be from him going on a private server that used that item ID and had those stats on the item which when on the live realms would show what was cached from the private realm.
