Tip: Run Midsummer as a lowbie
Here's a great tip from Darthkurai on LJ: doing the Midsummer Fire quests as a lowbie will net you a ton of nice XP. He grabbed almost two levels' worth of XP at level 40, just for running around to all the different bonfires throughout Azeroth. Bewarned that some of the quests have various level requirements on them (Undercity and all of the capital flames, as he finds out, are level 50 and above only, and of course Lord Ahune is only for level 70s), but doing all of the quests at low levels will net you a good 6-7k XP, which around level 40 will give you at least a ding or two.Pretty good for just running around the world once or twice. Everyone's excited about Ahune and what you can get from him, but don't forget your old alts, either -- logging them on during the festival and showing them the world (while killing on the way with those buffs) can grab you a nice chunk of free XP for them as well.

I've been doing the exact same thing. Got from level 39-41 and I'm still going. This event is an extremely helpful leveling tool.

At level 67 I get 5800 XP per honored flame, and around 11k XP from each desecrated flame.
Khanmora Jun 24th 2008 8:20AM
yep, i did all of the Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms flames on my warrior and netted her around 400K xp. She dinged lvl 65 and is about a quarter of the way though it now with all of the Outland fires to go. If anyone is curious, there are 65 fires in total and yes it takes a very long time to do them when you have a lot of alts =/ 4 down 3 to go.

It's unfortunate that this also means XP for my bank alt. Darn.
Oldbear Jun 24th 2008 10:42AM
There is no shame in having a bank past lvl 1.

I just finished doing all the fires and netted well over 400,000 XPs. Got me from mid-65 to early-66. Took a little less than 4 hours with Crusader Aura up. Also made a lot of coin in the process and got some fun items.
Is there anything special you can get for honoring/desecrating every flame?
Eternalpayn Jun 23rd 2008 8:52PM
With all of the Burning Blossoms you obtained (470 if you did them all) You can net yourself some nice rewards. Check out the rewards page! (http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/06/22/midsummer-fun-the-midsummer-merchant/)
With that many you can get some buff items and a Brazier of Dancing Flames.
Khanmora Jun 24th 2008 8:22AM
I had more like 600 flowers when I finished with all the flames. That's including the capital cities.
Eternalpayn Jun 24th 2008 11:35AM
Oh, I forgot about those. You should have finished with 570, then.
Zuldim Jun 23rd 2008 8:36PM
Erm, I hope you mean 60-70K. because I get 6-7k Experience just from doing 2 quests at 44.
Calybos Jun 23rd 2008 8:59PM
Since when is level 40 a "lowbie"?
Sheesh, guys--not everyone's sitting around bored at 70!
Super Guest Man 9000 Jun 23rd 2008 9:24PM
I think its been "lowbie" ever since it wasn't the level cap..
/mean sarcasm

Glad to see others are covering this topic, all be it a fair bit later than mine(http://www.allthingsazeroth.com/Medros/archive/2008/06/midsummer-fire-festival-a-boon.php).

has anyone actually done the math if running to all these places without the flight paths (likely) is actually worth the xp you get vs just staying in one zone for the same time and doing quests?
Also, it appears that the XP either scales with level or scales with location. I went to goldshire on my level nine and got something like 600xp. It was not very much at all.
Slayblaze Jun 23rd 2008 11:13PM
I have a feeling you may be on to something there. It very likely would work to to be about the same amount of xp. I guess it's really just the novelty of doing something outside of the normal everyday quest chains, plus it will only be around for a limited time so you get that feeling of participation in a more exclusive event.
But yeah, we're probably better off just doing the normal quests in the zones for one's current level and avoid all the wasted time spent travelling all over the place just to complete a single objective which is quite far off the normally beaten-path.

Its probably true that you would earn XP as fast by staying in one zone, but if you don't have all of the flight points, this is excellent motivation to get them. Certainly more rewarding than any quest that forces you to span the world would ever give.

Oddly enough, on my server not many people give a crap about Ahune.
the gear is all crap. The only useful thing is the deathfrost enchant, and you get that every run... so really the only people making an effort right now are the ones farming for the pet. The cloaks are sub-Prince quality cloaks that are I think identical to badge cloaks, so there's no reason for anyone who's been running Kara every week and/or upgraded to a badge cloak to run it. The necks would be interesting, except that Heroic Ahune seems to be hard as all hell to defeat, requires much better gear to defeat him than he drops, and the necks are also nearly identical to badge necks. It's a big "blah" to most people.
The haloween event was still in a time when the majority of guilds probably weren't farming T5+ and had better gear, so the rewards were actually pretty decent. That, and the novelty of the whole thing I suppose.
This one could have used a more appropriate itemization. I think a magisters' terrace quality fight + drops would have been a bit more on the spot, but I guess we're stuck with this one. I'm going to try to run it on my latest alt, but it's nearly impossible to find a group for it already.

I actually dinged 70 for the first time by doing the desecrating fire quests, at 69, each friendly fire gave 6k xp, each enemy gave 12k, and the torch/Ahune minion dailies each gave 12k. I dinged in Goldshire :P
Thundersmall Jun 23rd 2008 10:35PM
It got me from lvl 43 to 45..almost 46 with around 3000xp for ally and 6000xp for horde fires..
No i did not go into the cities and maybe missed out on some xp..but i got all the others..
It took me a while but now i have most of the FP's and i have a easier time for all those "fly around the whole world" quests that you get above lvl 40-45 and up to 58..or whenever you feel like leaving for Hellfire ;)
