Battle.net forums hint at Diablo 3
Nothing sparks speculation like a mystery, as Blizzard's recent splash pages in this week leading up to their Worldwide Invitational tournament have shown. The main contenders for what Blizz is going to announce (and yes, they are going to announce something) are Diablo 3 and something related to Wrath. Only two splash pages have shown up so far (out of a presumably longer series), but the game may already be given away by a slip-up at the Battle.net forums. Blizzplanet is reporting that if you go to www.battle.net/forums/board.aspx?ForumName=d3-general (which would be the Diablo 3 general forums), you get an error that "The Battle.net Forums Are Currently Down." However, if you go to any other forum name that doesn't yet exist (like www.battle.net/forums/board.aspx?ForumName=wowinsider-rocks), you get redirected to the main Battle.net forums page. Only d3-general gives the "forums down" error.
If you like to follow Blizzard-related rumors, this may sound familiar. Way back at Blizzcon '07, this was one way we found out that Wrath of the Lich King was going to be the next expansion: www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath gave a "Forbidden" error, whereas any other non-existent path at worldofwarcraft.com gave a regular old 404. So to me this seems like a big hint in the favor of D3. Which means that those of you hoping for a big Wrath-related announcement might well be disappointed. But in my mind, a release date was always unlikely - since when does Blizz give release dates, especially when the game is so far away (still in alpha)? Then again, they could always announce more than one thing; it is about time for a closed beta on Wrath. However, my guess (and my hope) is for Diablo 3.

While i personally WISH it would be an announcement about a 2nd hero class for WoW, that is a pretty significant argument for diablo 3....
kudos to whoever figured that out. This mystery is more engaging than LOST!

lol guys seriously
When u go to blizzard'S main page u see the ice cavern
u dont when u click on sc2 link form the main page
BUT
u do from clicking on world of warcraft
SO
this is directly linked with WotLK
screw D3
Nick Jun 25th 2008 8:39PM
Screw Diablo 3? Oh dear.

My argument to that is that WoW.com is a community site. b.net also has the splash and it is a community site. Blizzard is the main site so obviously it has it. Sc2.com has no community aspect. No forums or anything.

Why can't it be both? Or even more? It's possible they'll announced closed Beta for Wrath, Diablo 3, and a Starcraft 2 date.

ZOMG my cousin and i have been sitting back for ages bickering because of no new diablo...i really hope it is time again for diablo to come back

Seriously enough with the Diablo news. I was under the impression this was a WORLD OF WARCRAFT news blog. Go post this on your sister site Massively where it belongs, or start calling yourself a Blizzard news blog, not a WoW news blog.
Nick Jun 25th 2008 8:25PM
Your so grumpy..
go play wow. Did you complain when they talked about SC2?
By strange coincidence the ppl who enjoy wow enjoy all that Blizzard has to offer.
Please don't flame with negative posts.
Thanks.

Skip the news you don't wanna read maybe?
I'm sure most people here appreciate any news related to Blizzard, including me.

Considering the splash screen appears when you go to worldofwarcraft.com, they can talk about what it will become therefore tying into WoW related.
jay Jun 25th 2008 8:24PM
My uneducated guess would be:
Announcement of a release date for Starcraft 2 And an announcement about starting development on Diablo 3 along with a mock up video like the one we saw for wrath.

I hate to break it to you, but "d3-general" isn't the only board that causes the error message. "wow-general" causes it as well, and since WoW's forums aren't hosted on Battle.net, it should redirect like anything else(but doesn't).
This doesn't rule out the announcement being D3 or WotLK or whatever, but it means that the logic for saying why it might be D3 is void.
ArrantPrac Jun 25th 2008 10:11PM
But the wow-general forum used to exist long ago before WoW was released. Once the game came out and the new site went up it closed. I suppose it would make sense that it's still listed somewhere as a "known" forum.
kr3wman Jun 25th 2008 8:58PM
Update : It actually redirects to the forums now.
kr3wman Jun 25th 2008 8:59PM
Now it doesn't...Argh I'm so confused @_@

The only worry is if they're remembering that they made this mistake with WOTLK's announcement and they're using it as a distraction.
soul Jun 25th 2008 9:36PM
Personally I think they're gonna announce Diablo 3 AND something WotLK related as well. And I mean something major, not just some cinematic trailer.
PimpyMicPimp Jun 25th 2008 9:49PM
You do realise that they can announce something related to both D3 and Wrath at the same time, right? It's not mutually exclusive.
I'm quite sure there will be some sort of Wrath announcment, as evident by the ice motif and the fact that this splash is infront of the World of Warcraft site, but at the same time given that it's Diablo's aniversery and all these other hints I'm quite sure we'll have a Diablo announcment as well.
Seriously, they can make do big announcments at once; it's not a once-per-event deal.

W4 does the same thing
