Meet Coren Direbrew, dispenser of awesome trinkets and brewmaidens
The Brewfest is currently live for testing on the PTR, and one of the biggest changes is the addition of yet another holiday specific boss, Coren Direbrew. Coren himself isn't completely new. He was also present in the Grim Guzzler last year, when he would give you a quest to deliver brew to the Brewfest and get an offhand tankard in return. This year, however, it appears he's a bit more surly. Instead of simply completing a quest, this time you need to fight him.
Luckily, the loot he drops is more than worth the hassle. Most of it is clones of the trinkets available for badges from G'eras, but there's also a couple other drops that look like a lot of fun. Overall, the loot should draw a lot of people out to Blackrock Depths to beat him up.
A list of his loot is coming up after the break.
Badge of Justice Trinket Clones
Empty Mug of Direbrew: This trinket shares stats with the Bloodlust Brooch from G'eras, which makes it a great choice for pretty much any physical DPS class.
Direbrew Hops: This trinket shares stats with the Essence of the Martyr, the healing trinket from G'eras.
Coren's Lucky Coin: This trinket shares stats with the Gnomeregan Auto-Blocker 600 from G'eras, which, alas, means it's pretty useless to Feral tanks and Death Knights. You Paladin and Warrior tanks should like it though.
Dark Iron Smoking Pipe: This trinket shares stats with the Icon of the Silver Crescent from G'eras. Not only is the idea of having a nice smoking pipe pretty sweet, it also means casters, especially Shadow Priests and Affliction Warlocks, should love it.
But enough about that, let's get the more unique loot. Don't get me wrong, the exact clone loot is pretty awesome. There is nothing wrong with saving a whole mess of badges by getting these instead of the stuff G'eras has to offer. However, I think you'll agree with me that the unique loot is just too sweet to pass up.
Unique Loot
Brightbrew Charm: In addition to granting 45 stamina, this is the first of two charms that summons your own personal bar wench. Apparently, in addition to granting a small healing over time aura to all party members, she'll throw you a Brewfest Brew if you wave at her. I'd have to say that this trinket may knock the meteor and tentacle trinkets off the top of my favorite trinket list.
Balebrew Charm: If you like your brewmaidens darker and feistier, this is apparently the trinket for you. According to reports, this Black Brewmaiden wades into the fray and does some damage of her own. Also, like her more tranquil cousin, her charm gives 45 stamina, and she'll provide beer if you give her a wave.
Direbrew's Shanker: The stats on this dagger are similar to those of the Emerald Ripper off of Moroes. It is, however, a bit slower, which gives it more high end damage and should make it a popular weapon for Mutilate builds. It also looks like a broken bottle, which means it's perfect for all your bar brawling needs. This dagger is likely a homage to the Barman Shanker, which drops off Grim Guzzler bartender Plugger Spazzring, and was one of the most sought after weapons by pre-raiding Rogues in the days before Burning Crusade.
Final Thoughts
Of course, this is still the test server, so it's very possible that none of this loot could make it onto the live servers. There are also rumors that the bar wench summoning charms are hoaxes, though I hope to confirm that they drop with a few test runs later today. But for now, I'd say this loot is definitely worth drooling over, and I do hope it all makes it live. Like I said, I'm still pretty bummed out over losing the Kodo, but if I can get my own personal Dwarven bar wench in return, I'll still be feeling pretty good come Brewfest.

Dark Iron Smoking Pipe
Yes please
Mcg Jun 25th 2008 4:19PM
would I be able to pop that pipe and icon of the silver crescent at the same time? if so, wow.
Daniel Whitcomb Jun 25th 2008 4:23PM
My Guess, Mcg, would be that their cooldowns will be mutually exclusive.
Candina@WH Jun 25th 2008 4:33PM
I HOPE they have shared cool downs. While the burst damage would be nice, having two silver crescents available for sustained damage would be better.
Then again, I play a shadow priest and have trouble with aggro control while raiding (wtb Subtlety to cloak, but no guildy has the enchant :-().

Huh. So since he gives level 70 appropriate items, I'm assuming this means we shouldn't plan on seeing Wrath before, say, Thanksgiving?
Doffencrag Jun 25th 2008 3:49PM
Still possible, however slim. Assuming they do release WotLK around Thanksgiving, not many people would be at lvl 80. So lvl 70 appropriate items sound about right.
However, that is just the optimist in me. The realist says that you're most probably right.
Oh, and in before the "objectification of women" and "waah! my badges were wasted" QQs... ;)

you two nust not have hear that there's an official release date for WLK. they already said that it is coming november 13th of this year

...dude, these comments are from *June*.

I would seriously doubt there will be a wrath drop before January. WotLK is in Alpha and for Blizz, anal retentive, nit picking Blizz, to hurry a Beta seems out of character.
I expect WotLK to hit Beta in August, and the Beta to be at least 5 months.
Dave Jun 25th 2008 4:01PM
where's your logic behind a 5 month beta? Did you just make that number up or is it based on any logical data?
here's a hint for you, the Burning Crusade beta was 3 months long, and that had to test two 1-20 progression paths, two new races, Paladins for Horde, Shamans for Alliance and the entire Outlands zone and all it contained including flying mounts for the first time. It was a massive amount of stuff, but was done in 3 months.
Lich King has a single new class and siege weapons in addition to the new zones. Why in the world would it take almost double the time for significantly less actual additions to the game?
Candina@WH Jun 25th 2008 4:21PM
/shrug. As you wish. I don't think that WotLK will have significantly less content than BC.
The zones are larger, there are two levels of 'tuning' for each raid zone (10 and 25 man), you have a new world PVP mechanic that needs to be tweaked. A whole new class (maybe more than one). A whole new class mechanic (runes).
Flying mounts? please. It is the swimming algorithm and complete world design. The reason flying isn't in Az is because there are huge blank spaces on the Az map.
Plus, I believe, but could be wrong, that the Open Beta was 3 months. I think the close Alpha was longer than that.
I was being optimistic when I said I felt that WotLK would be in Beta by August after, what, 4 months of closed Alpha?
January, at the earliest, I will be my account on it.

On a tangent.. is there a history of TBC development anywhere? It would be interesting to compare it to where we are now.
Izbay Jun 25th 2008 7:20PM
Not to mention graphic overhaul (nothing AMAZING but new shaders, shadows, fire graphics, etc.)
And yes, the scale of each zone is supposed to be massive. No falling through the earth please! :D
Dave Jun 25th 2008 3:58PM
Nothing can get me to go back into BRD, ever.
Especially not rehashed badge rewards that won't even be worth using a month later when the expansion ships.
I worked my ass off last year to get a Ram, and now I'm glad I did since I guess I can't get one for any of my other characters now. Now, I might reconsider if they put the ram mount as a drop in BRD instead... but I'm definitely nowhere near as excited about yet another trinket that I'll use a lot for a month or so and then totally forget about it entirely.

I guess no one plays content for "FUN" any more :(
Dave Sep 20th 2008 12:00PM
Nope, nobody at all!
Of course, fun can't be a subjective thing at all, there has to be an absolute value that you, and only you, are able to define though, right? I mean that IS how it works, yes?
I'm not sure why I need to be impressed at things just because Blizzard puts it in the game. Do I have to declare it fun, simply because it exists and can be done? I'm not real sure of the logic there, so I think we can agree that what may be fun for you is not guaranteed to be fun for anyone except yourself, and conversely as my previous opinion stated it doesn't seem very fun or interesting to me. I'm not tell you that you can't have fun. Some people have fun with RP Tauren on Orc sex in the sewers of Undercity, but I'm pretty sure that lots of people aren't going to agree on that. What's the difference?
Manatank Jun 25th 2008 4:30PM
I'm assuming that with these replicas of badge vendor trinkets we will have the chance to have two of them equipped?
Daniel Whitcomb Jun 25th 2008 4:35PM
Yeah, they're seperate items, so if want to equip both a Bloodlust Brooch and an Empty Mug of Direbrew, you should have no problem doing so.
Ametrine Jun 25th 2008 4:46PM
Mmm... dwarven bar-wenches...
12345 Jun 25th 2008 5:25PM
Nice,BRD.
These makes me wish I still had up my subscription for these one.
That instance was really one of the best made in the game, back then when instances were more than 1 pre defined path ala on rail shooters.
