WWI '08 Panel: Gear Resets
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And if current information holds, you'll be looking like one of his elves when you hit Northrend. Say goodbye to your cool-looking level 70 purple gear and say hello to starting over with greens. It'll be like reliving your junior high photo day -- or worse. Answering a specific question about the topic of ugly, mismatched armor during the WWI Q&A session today, the developer panel gave a cheeky answer:
We ended up having a little clown action, ok, a lot of clown action in TBC. We aren't going to eliminate it, but we are going to improve it. You won't be happy 100%, but we could just solve it by making everything gray.
I think this answer is perfectly reasonable. After all, it gives you an incentive to keep going for better gear: embarrassment.
However, on the positive side, Blizzard will offer more armor customization in Wrath. For example, they will make Raiding sets look different from PvP sets. For me, this means if I spy someone wearing a clear-cut PvP getup, I'm going to get the heck outta Dodge lickety split.

"For example, they will make Raiding sets look different from PvP sets."
I'm assuming that means different models. If that's true, woohoo!
They should take it one step further and make the models different for each faction.

Or at least the skins. I wouldn't mind seeing the same gear for both factions if they could add some blue or red highlights for both factions. Or maybe have special places for faction logos.

FFS! So my T6 gona be Grey? Lols...I spent all my tbc time to look back into history as showing other ppl my past Experience with grey gear
Jay Jun 28th 2008 6:07PM
T6 will last until level 75.
Steerpike Jun 28th 2008 10:43PM
actually you are basing that assumption on the leaked gear screen shots. On the Alpha forums one of the things said is not to expect the gear levels to stay the way they are. They could go up or down. Most of the level 75 gear in Alpha right now is OP because level 75 is the level cap.

Well its expected that T6 will be good for even lvl 80s! it will be equal to blue gear apparently! But i want the name colour to still stay purple! Dont wana be seen raiding with "grey" gear :P

what they mean't by "grey" was the color of the gear itself. not the color it's name is typed in. that way people wouldnt be running around in rainbow clown suits. :P

I have a lvl 67 lock
I walk around in the cities in my Enchanted Golden Blood Robe because of the way my greens look. Stupid Shadow Cast Tunic.
I miss robes... I hope they have good ones for the rewards for beginning quests in the expantion.

Just like the Ankh-Morpork Assassin's Guild, where the main incentive to "take the dark" is to get out of those ridiculous pantaloons. :)

Why can't they just give us costume slots like LotRO and EQII? Just make it so whatever you put into your costume slot is of the same type as what goes into your functioning armor slot, i.e. if you have a one-handed weapon in your main hand then you must have a one-handed weapon in your main hand costume slot, or if you have plate shoulders in your armor slot then you must have plate shoulders in your costume slot. Bam, problem solved.

Or they could add the ability to simply change the color, like people have been asking for nonstop for years now. They seem willing to do just about anything else to beg players away from Warhammer, why not this? They dropped the the riding skill 10 levels and gave warriors the ridiculous 4-handed weapon ability (Titan's Grip, that is), so why not. Although the new hunter abilities sound cool, it's still patching holes in a sinking ship, instead of bringing it in to port for a good overhaul. WoW is broke and isn't getting any better with shiny new toys in the form of patches & expansions.

Yeah, they don't need to make everything grey, they just need to let us choose from a set of skins. Still some models would look rediculous, but with a set of selectabled skins the clownyness should be kept to a minimum.
I understand they want enemies to be able to gauge your equipment level, so there will never be "costumes". But during the leveling phase this is pretty pointless as models and skins used to be reused over and over again in TBC and it'll likely happen again. Wouldn't hurt to make it customizable then.

Why not just switch into your "cool-looking gear" set when you're wandering around town? I do that right now; I throw on my tux, pimp hat, and dual-wielded fish when I'm running around Shattrath.

This is the only thing that I'm dreading about Wrath; the ugly greens.
I found a screenie from while I was leveling. "GOOD LORD" is all I can say when I look at it.

Oh grief... Prin was rocking those same pants for several levels, along with a baby-blue shirt, brown boots, and wolf-face head. /facepalm
Yeah, not really looking forward to the closet-cleanout of replacing epics with uncommons.
