The change to Steady Shot sounds like a good idea, and the pet talent trees as well. Still, I would be sad to see pets buffed to the point of being viable 5-man tanks, as that would essentially let a hunter fill two essential group roles at once, which seems a bit overpowered.

considering the abundance of hunters on a pvp server and a lack of descent tanks. >> I'd almost welcome having to tank behind someone's tank pet if it ment getting the dungeon done.
almost..... there's still the Huntard's newbness to worry over.

That's not how I read it- the tank tree may as well be called the "solo tree"- I think it's probably going to be build as good enough for a hunter to solo, but not good enough to replace a real tank.

Before abandoning my poor little Furtle the Turtle for an (underwhelming) boar, I tanked a good number of dungeons with a hunter pet -- including one memorable Scolomance run. Shell Shield is a very underestimated talent.
Hunter pets as main tanks in raids? In end-game content. Um, no. But running the WotLK of Hellfire Ramparts and Blood Furnace using Misdirect and a hunter pet really ought to be viable for those with no fear of the new, unexpected and strange.
