The thing is, though ? There won't be a "tank shortage" once Death Knights hit the scene. I can definitely see, however, that this will keep hunter pets viable as off tanks. Main tanking by hunter pets will probably stay a novelty for YouTube videos.

Hmmm, im not sure im to excited about the auto shot change. One of the things i found fun about being a hunter was managing my shot rotation to maximise DPS.
I hope its not too over simplified in wotlk, otherwise i can see it becoming boring rather quickly. I like the fact it actually takes some thought to be able to maintain a high level of DPS (without using macros that is) rather than just mindlessly mashing buttons.

You really believe there won't be a tank shortage? :) Everyone thought there wouldn't be a tank shortage when druids and paladins were made into viable tanks. Just like last time, death knights will all be specced DPS, and tanks will still be hard to find.

Preston,
One of the Death Knights things they noted today is that they are designing the three DK talent trees so that all three serve the same role... there won't be a "tank" tree, a DK is a tank regardless of talent spec.
