Forum post of the day: Live(ish) Feeds

Zoff of EU-Twilight's Hammer took some time to vent about the specific issues with the streaming coverage. He feels that the stage is too large , and the camera angle makes it difficult to see much the event. The intense blue background doesn't help much either. One gripe I've heard over and over that the announcers are loud and annoying, with little grasp of the content they're discussing. Much of the rest of that thread debates the merits of using both English and French at the conference.
Fans are also disappointed with the live raid feed. Skellyhell of EU-The Maelstrom began a thread where people expressed their grievances with the live-stream coverage. of Nihilum's venture into the Sunwell Plateau raid instance. The raid is mostly footage of the participants rather than in-game footage of the actual raid event.
I have to admit, I've shied away from the live broadcast. I was pleased with Jenny Lees' live blogging coverage of the opening ceremony without the frustrating glitches. Should we expect a top-notch production quality from Blizzard? Is the live feed of the convention a service to fans that could not be in attendance?

With the Nihilum live Kil'Jaeden raid we were able to confirm they do not hate girls nor do they raid upside down with fingers in their nose.
But seriously, bit sad that it took them 3 hours to realize (b/w gradients) that broadcasting what the stage video projection was showing wasn't working and then not even being able to fix it.
Besides that, shrug it's free.

After I watched the late Nihilum raid and the costume/dance contests, I switched over to the end of the Arena tournament and found it much more well handled. The camera focused on the actual gameplay and only showed the faces of the players after each game. It also had two commentators that explained what was going on with clear details. The Arena hosts also interviewed the winning team, and didn't seem to be all over them as the costume/dance contests hosts were for their events.
I can only hope that the main stage works out its kinks by tomorrow...

I could barely get the feeds to work, it would start for a few minutes then instantly drop me out, very frustrating. Hoping that someone recorded the developers panel.

It was annoying they had to translate everything in French like that which made a hour long Q&A session only 30 minutes of actual questions. I don't get the people saying that just because it happened in Paris they needed to do the translations. When they held the WWI last year in Korea they didn't have a Korean translator and I guarantee that more of those Koreans didn't understand English than the French at this years WWI.

I would say that HEY ITS FREE. We didn't pay for it. They didn't have to broadcast it. We could be getting all the information second hand from all the news/blog sites with footage from a guy with a camera built in his hat who keeps forgetting he has the hat on while scratching his head obscuring the image every 5 minutes instead of "from the horses mouth". Would it have been nice if it was a little more reliable? Sure. Better camera angles? Absolutely. But hey, if you wanted uninterrupted viewing and front row view that caters to you by showing what you want to see at the exact moment. Theeeeeeen you should have bought a ticket and went to the event. Me, I'm glad I was able to see what I saw and learn what I did. I think we tend to take to many things for granted and expect things handed to us on a silver platter (even if we didn't pay for it). Heres a poll for yah. How many gaming conventions have you seen streamed live for your viewing pleasure?
Looking forward to see Sundays stream. Another 3am wake up for me hehe. For the first time not bad and I'm sure if they do it again it will get better. Thank you Blizzard.

The feed was working fine for me yesterday, but now I can just catch a glimpse when I turn it off, the feed seems to be playing but I'm not getting sound or video :/. Apart from this frustrating bug, I agree that the camera direction is horrible and that the Q&A translations take away a lot of time from the Q&A itself.

It should be pointed out that the stream we're getting is what is shown on the right and left hand screens to the audience. Seeing as the audience can already see the screens, this is why there'd be no point in showing them, and why we always just see the people.
As for French, it's the law in France, everything has to be in French.

"As for French, it's the law in France, everything has to be in French."
Ahhh, beat me to it. Not sure if this is the specific law that applies here but it's close enough. I remember a story a few years back about a school located in France that taught in English being prosecuted for their web server not using French as the main language or something to that effect.

Only the French would have a law like that.
