Authenticator on sale at the Blizzard Store

I'm giddy again. Why? Because I just placed an order for new Blizzard Authenticator. I am not the least bit phased about the price. Given the time frame between when Blizzard announces that they will do something and when they actually come through, I'm surprised this has come so quickly after the announcement. Sooner is better than later. I know what it's like to lose control of my account to a keylogger.
Operating under the assumption that they will operate both of my accounts, I placed an order for two: one for me and one for my better half. I shall let you know when the doohickey arrives if this is, in fact, the case. I also believe that they make a great gift, so I bought one for my mom as well. Shipping for this product is free, but you do have to pay your state sales tax (
Next Day Standard shipping orders usually take 1-2 business days for items in stock; please anticipate approximately 24 hours of packaging time during normal business hours. Allow 8-10 business days for Ground shipping, and International shipping rates and times may vary.
This website states that the authenticator can only be shipped to the . I can't find anything about the authenticator on the WoW
There is nothing on the page which states if the device is in stock or not. The email said it will ship in the next 2-3 business days. I'm sure there will be a massive demand for authenticators in the next few weeks, so be sure to place your order soon.
I've been a wee bit miffed with Blizzard this weekend over the Diablo 3 splash screen suspense. This makes up for it. Good news about Wrath of the Lich King and the opportunity to better secure my account. Thanks Blizzard, I even took a sec to opt in for beta on future releases.

Or at least I would have if they were not sold out.
Frostbright Jun 30th 2008 7:20AM
Guess its not activated yet.

And the deliviry costs in Europe are 30 euro... Good luck getting a 6 euro dongle for 36 euros :(
Corvidae Jun 30th 2008 7:17AM
LOL, I didn't realize it was a dongle!
vlad Jun 30th 2008 1:02PM
its not a dongle
dongles plug in to your computer.
this is a token key generator. it generates a key code on an lcd screen that you then enter on your computer. it does not connect to the computer.

thanks for the headsup. I'll be checking to see if they're available in europe when i get home from work later... don't really want to live through another account hack.

So.... Australia gets shafted?
Savant Jul 1st 2008 12:59PM
Don't feel bad in Australia, they don't deliver to Canada either and we share a border with them.

As a GL of a very large guild with many tabs, plus my storage guilds... You better believe I ordered myself one. Not even sure my wife will want one, but tossed an order in for her too. Worst case, I can gift it to a guildy if she doesn't want it.
Bet Blizzard is going to be zerged for this. =)
george Jun 30th 2008 7:55AM
we are paying monthly for this game and they cant give it to us for free? thats pathetic... :( they could at least given it to people that have had an account for 6 months or more, but paying money for something else, that sucks... no thanks blizzard... :-\
Draelar Jun 30th 2008 8:12AM
You don't HAVE to buy it, you know... If you can afford to pay 14 euro (or equivalent) a month to play a game, than a once off 6 euro/dollar/pound isn't going to kill you...
/sigh @ ppl expecting to get everything for free.
Wamphyri Jun 30th 2008 8:19AM
I kind of agree with George that we should get it for free. We do pay enough each month to Blizzard, surely they should be able to give us the security we deserve as a part of that fee?
And surely the £30 delivery fee must be wrong - unless they aim to purchase an epic flying mount to deliver it straight to your door!
pwkalt1 Jun 30th 2008 9:39AM
I think that they should just include it as an extra in the WotLK collector's edition.
baudkarma Jun 30th 2008 12:25PM
I wouldn't be surprised if it is part of WotLK. Bliz might offer buyers their choice of the authenticator or two free weeks of play.
Offering this thing for free right now would be stupid. They'd be flooded with requests, since it's FREE. It would take a massive shipping effort to get mail them out in timely fashion without pissing people off, and another massive effort to handle all the support problems. In the end they'd have far more people upset at them for the problems then people happy with them for sending it for free.
This way Bliz will limit then number of people buying it at first, since a lot of people won't want to pay for something optional. They'll probably offer it at retail stores in a couple of months, and get another rush there. Then when WotLK comes out they'll get the rest of the players.
ninjasuperspy Jun 30th 2008 8:06AM
Ha! Free shipping? You'd have to be a fool not to get one.
kunukia Jun 30th 2008 8:07AM
Just ordered mine...
Shivoa Jun 30th 2008 8:09AM
Yep, also found it on the EU site, sold out (why do I get the feeling there are millions of people trying to buy these right now and Blizzard have no chance of dealing with demand).
Strage EU prices, €6 or £6. All other items at the store have around a 1.5 exchange rate mirroring the value of the currency.
Medicia Jun 30th 2008 8:14AM
I think there is something wrong with the European store, since if you look around the store, they are sold out on every physical item in there.
