Druids may be getting a res in Wrath
A healer in WoW basically has one job: keep people from being dead. Ideally, you would keep people from ever becoming dead in the first place by healing them, but sometimes people do die and you have to resurrect them. WoW has four classes that can heal, Druid, Paladin, Priest, and Shaman, and three out of those four have more or less the same spell to bring people back to life, whether it's called Resurrection, Redemption, or Ancestral Spirit. There are slight variations in mana cost and the amount of HP and mana the target resurrects with, but they're all 10-second casts and all only work outside of combat.
Then there is the Druid's resurrection spell, Rebirth. This spell is often known as "combat res" or "battle res," since it is the only targettable resurrection spell that can be cast during combat (Shamans can also self-res in or out of combat with Reincarnation). It's a great spell, but it has a 20-minute cooldown, meaning that if you're in a 5-man with a Druid healer and no other resurrecting player, and people die more often than one every 20 minutes (which happens frequently in heroics), they're not all going to be able to be ressed. This is not enough to keep me from wanting to run instances with only a Druid healing - I still love trees. But it is an obvious hole in a the Resto Druid's spell lineup.
Fortunately, it looks like this hole may be closed in Wrath of the Lich King. According to the newly-relocated Wrath alpha wiki, Druids will be receiving a regular, no-cooldown, out-of-combat resurrection spell, entitled Revive. It has a 10-second cast time, and seems to bring targets up with about the same amount of HP and MP as Priest Resurrection. No word on mana cost yet. All I can say is "it's about time." Sure, it does homogenize the healing classes a little bit more, but Druids really ought to be able to fully serve as sole healers, and that means both keeping people from dying and bringing them back up if they do fall.

@maarick
Bubble is useless against priests (mass dispel ftw!)
No idea where you have the misguided impression that Holy Light is uninteruptable... try using it against a shaman
Plate does jack against spells
Cleanse doesn't work on everything

Why do druids need a "normal" rez? Or rather when are priests and pallies going to get their combat rez? Better yet, how about an AoE rez "ritual" while we're at it
Faar Jul 1st 2008 12:54AM
What are you complaining about? The ability to ress people OUT of combat is not a class-defining ability for either priest, shaman OR paladin. It's merely a convenience, so that you don't have to run from a graveyard.
There's no reason whatsoever to not give this ability also to druids.
ringu0 Jun 30th 2008 9:28PM
So if druids get a normal res, can my shaman get a HoT spell or a battle res?
And don't let me start on a spammable CC.
Adam Jun 30th 2008 9:33PM
Yay! It's about damn time. No more in 5-mans, "Ah damn, you pulled aggro again? Well my rez is still on cooldown from the last time, I guess we'll have to sit here and wait for 10 minutes while you run back."
Calaana Jun 30th 2008 10:02PM
No cool down? All reses have cool downs... it just so happens to always be up when the tools need a res. Bad luck I guess!
Seriously though, anything that helps a healer or tank do their job is a good thing. There is no downside to this, every healer class has some death based gimmick(improved death, self rez and divine intervention), and about time druids got a ooc res to go with theirs.

Amazingly concise.

GGood to see Kalgan... I mean Blizz... addressing the underpowered and rez-deprived resto druid. it's about time this unplayably weak class was given a leg up . I for one welcome our new resto overlords.

"I still love trees."
I knew it! Seriously though, being a feral druid hat on occasion has to heal or rez, I found myself asking why I don't (or a branch) have a normal rez. I can't even express how much it would help. A lot of people complain that there aren't either enough healers or tanks, this could help solve a gap.

There's a lot of people saying "Druids get normal resurrection when they already have a spell that takes 2 seconds to cast and can be used in combat? In that case, why can't I have HoT/Shapeshifting/Moonkin-dance*?"
But I don' think it's that easy. For instance, I think that most people have accepted that Druids have the ability to Cyclone an opponent for some seconds. But imagine if Cyclone wasn't in the game, but rumors/patch-notes said that they would get it in the future. I could imagine the Mages crying "Druids get a new and effective CC? That is so unfair? Why can't I have a Water-Machine Form?"
Or if Shaman didn't have Reincarnation, Paladins would be saying "Shamans can res themselves now? They already have a normal res, I want a self-res, too!"
Is it unbalanced that Druids have Cyclone? Maybe. Is it unbalanced that Shaman can Reincarnate? Maybe. It is unbalanced that Kungen can crit for 500K even though he is Protection? Maybe.
This game is a lot about balance. And it is unbalanced as hell. Of course it is. The only way it couldn't be was if the developers had God-like abilities (of course, some Blizzard-fanboys/girls probably think they do). And making balance in a big MMO like WoW that both has PvE and PvP can't be easy. Every decision there has ever been made for a talent or skill has consequences. But if another class gets an ability, I don't think you can just say "They get another *insert good skill*? Not fair, I want *insert skill of the class*".
Besides, every classes will get new abilities in WotLK. According to the leaked version of the talent-trees, my Shaman will get the Thunder-ability which pushes nearby opponents 200 yards back. Sure the "200 yards" was probably a typo. But I'm still crossing fingers. And when I rushes into the middle of EotS and grabs the flag after pushing my Thunder-button, killing every foolish Horde by sending them 200 yards through air and over the edge of the battleground, they will all cry that I should be nerfed, and I will say: "Yes... Learn to play, noobs."
Ahem...

Ah, but after you hit thunder you'll still be surrounded by 15 rogues in cloak of shadows :D

Are all these people serious?
Yeesh the Resto Hate is strong, wow.Or is it just the old anti hybrid movement?
Anyway, dont be idiots, druids needed these to be competent healers for 5 mans.
No,No other things simply do not matter,if others have no hot or have a self res or whatever,it doesnt matter change the first fact.
Dont get me wrong guys,I do dislike resto druids but just as every other healer,or class/specs that are benefited by resil, and thats because I hate resil. At the same time I support those that were harmed by that horrible mechanic like destro warlocks .

btw Im also planning on adding you to my "People I vote down" list!.

In 2v2 Arena:
Step One: Kill oponent dps, your dps dies too :'(
Step Two: Run to other side of map, cat form stealth.
Step Three: When other healer is away from the body of your partner, Cyclone, Cat Form, Sprint, Revive.
Step Four: Win

All of the people above who are whinging about druids getting an out-of-combat rez have obviously never been surprise-DI'ed in a 25man raid and then afterwards had to say 'Oh! I'm sorry...my rez is still on cooldown' and had to stand there useless as the whole raid has to run back. It's a futile feeling. I'm going to be grateful for the new rez if it comes in to play. Won't have to worry so much if two people in a 5-man die while I'm healing, either. This balance druid is happy.

If you use your 20-min-cd-save-our-ass-rezing-a-tank-before-boss-kill-us-all in a wipe recovery (SS, ankh, divine intervention) i think i just kick you out of my guild...

Honestly i couldn't care. Res is a spell thats hardly game breaking. The hate is not because Druids don't deserve a normal res but the fact that druid as a class has become very powerful as of late and i can see most people thinking this is a change of giving druids another convenience - one that i might add they don't really need. Of course, i have a druid - paladin - shaman and i find it a nice change, it is a mere convenience but if i only played paladin and saw this change, boy would i be upset. I don't have HoTs which make me an awful Arena healer. I don't have cyclone which isn't exactly balanced despite Blizzard thinking it is. I don't have a combat res. Now all classes in WotLK will be getting new spells/talents and this is one of the biggest problems with leaking info. Your giving one side their info and not the other. Paladins right now have almost nothing in alpha. Thats of course, not to say they won't be getting some nice buffs (though i doubt it) but its too early to cry and moan about it.
As for res - again its hardly a class defining ability. Its just an added convenience for druids.
Centipede Jul 1st 2008 3:21AM
I've played a druid on the WWI and I can confirm the revive spell in the WotLK demo-setup.
Bloodieros Jul 1st 2008 3:29AM
My main is a Feral Druid who normally is a tank. However having a "normal rez" will just speed things up on progression nights when we are doing the post wipe clean up again (any raid knows about those nights). I prefer to reserve my Battle rez for Healers or CCers.
To those QQ about Druids. This is still the WotLK alpha stages. EXPECT CHANGES! We still don't have the new talents and spells. Some classes like Paladins have only a couple of things revealed. So down and wait. If you can't do that, then go find something that will put you to sleep for a while and lay off the Pixie Sticks.

Hmm, that aoe res ritual sounds like a great idea. the amount of time spent ressing after a raid wipe can be really annoying, something to res a whole group or an aoe could be done so as not to screw with the game mechanics quite easily. And as a holy priest I would not grudge trees a normal res same as I don't grudge shammys their ankhs
