Druids may be getting a res in Wrath
A healer in WoW basically has one job: keep people from being dead. Ideally, you would keep people from ever becoming dead in the first place by healing them, but sometimes people do die and you have to resurrect them. WoW has four classes that can heal, Druid, Paladin, Priest, and Shaman, and three out of those four have more or less the same spell to bring people back to life, whether it's called Resurrection, Redemption, or Ancestral Spirit. There are slight variations in mana cost and the amount of HP and mana the target resurrects with, but they're all 10-second casts and all only work outside of combat.
Then there is the Druid's resurrection spell, Rebirth. This spell is often known as "combat res" or "battle res," since it is the only targettable resurrection spell that can be cast during combat (Shamans can also self-res in or out of combat with Reincarnation). It's a great spell, but it has a 20-minute cooldown, meaning that if you're in a 5-man with a Druid healer and no other resurrecting player, and people die more often than one every 20 minutes (which happens frequently in heroics), they're not all going to be able to be ressed. This is not enough to keep me from wanting to run instances with only a Druid healing - I still love trees. But it is an obvious hole in a the Resto Druid's spell lineup.
Fortunately, it looks like this hole may be closed in Wrath of the Lich King. According to the newly-relocated Wrath alpha wiki, Druids will be receiving a regular, no-cooldown, out-of-combat resurrection spell, entitled Revive. It has a 10-second cast time, and seems to bring targets up with about the same amount of HP and MP as Priest Resurrection. No word on mana cost yet. All I can say is "it's about time." Sure, it does homogenize the healing classes a little bit more, but Druids really ought to be able to fully serve as sole healers, and that means both keeping people from dying and bringing them back up if they do fall.

All the complainers here remind me that a large amount of wow players seem to be masochists.
It's a convenience spell. It will HELP you when you run an instance with a druid. It will not HURT you!

QQ some more please people, it's fun to read all the whining about so-called OP druids.
It doesn't matter what Blizzard does, many people just whine because they seem to enjoy whining.

Druid need a rez ability that is non-combat and not on a timer, especially when they are the only healer in a group. Battle-rez is a different ability which is used in tactical situations, not quick wipe recovery.

If your going to be thorough about all of the resurrection spells you need not forget about a Warlocks Soul Stone.
It may be a little different than the other three resurrection spells but it does basically the same thing on a 30 minute cooldown, it can be used in combat as well.
It also helps with death walks when your entire group wipes, if you cast it on the one of the three resurrection capable classes.

everytime you get a buff in a class you get the rest complaining and crying and whinning, now QQing over this which is an overall improve to ALL, is just stupid, is sad to see all this bunch of healing jerks jealous over a fellow healer class, this game indeed could show the crappy side of a person, because in the end thats how they will behave in RL. grats druids!

damn so many of your cry like little girls as if your class doesnt have abilities that other classes dont. theyre not even adding anything that many other classes dont already have. bunch of whiny pansies.

My only issue with this is that it may cause people to not even bother to ask a priest or pally to heal for a 5 man.
If druids have ooc res, AND combat res, why take a priest? As a priest who likes to go Holy, it just seems unfair that another class should have everything I can do, and then more.
All I can see this doing is making it harder for Holy Priests to find groups, while party leaders hold out for a druid.
I don't see what's so wrong with having a druid only have combat res, and then take a pally tank or a shadow priest.
The fact of the matter is that combat-res is generally more powerful than ooc res, since it can be used to prevent a wipe, rather than bring everyone back. This gives druids an advantage as healers, and takes away from the value of having a priest or paladin.

my main is a druid, but i'd rather not have this spell. think about this logically people; the classes are all being watered down to where everyone has the same options. why not just collapse all the perceived "classes" down to tank, dps, healer and leave it at that. we've already seen locks are getting a port, our roots working inside, etc. at some point, if the abilities that set each class apart from the next are gone, there's no point having different classes at all.

It is quite rare for there not to be someone in a party who can not res, even if the healer is a druid.
Personally, I liked not having a res, and throughly enjoyed telling those who pulled aggro and died, to walk. Can't count the number of times there was a total wipe, and everyone but the healer walks back. It's these people, who are happy about the res ability, so congrats.

Why people are hating on this is simple...
Just another reason to not even bother looking for a priest for an instance run.
You wonder why most priests are shadow? because everyone else can heal just as well as we can... so why even bother sitting on a Dis/Holy build?

I play a bear tank, and it would be cool to have a rez I can use OOC. I never want to go resto on my druid simply because of no ooc rez. I would not even mind if they made it a talent in the resto tree, to shut up the people about OP hybrids.
I don't play a pally, but usually play with pallies, and if they had a resurrection aura, that would be awesome. You have to be OOC to to switch and if you engage in combat it auto switches to previous aura. Anyone that is in the aura range for say 10 seconds is rez'ed. I would not see that as OP, but totally cool. It would give pally a niche talent. (druids=hots, priest=after death healing, shamans=chain-heal, but pally, to my knowledge, don't have a niche talent other than they can wear plate...)

How come they barely had anything talking about Priest in this article? They should of because they're part of the healing & resurrecting process too.
Ilnara Jul 1st 2008 10:02AM
OP class is OP? Balance the whole game, HAHAHAHA lets just pass the OP torch among classes, thats much more fun. Hi Droods, see whiney wheels get the OP grease.
Good on ya, as if that class wasn't ridiculously OP'ed already anyways.
Brauner02 Jul 1st 2008 10:25PM
Yes yes so when im healing you in an instance and you die and go "OMFG USE YOUR BATTLE REZ TO BRING ME LOLOLOLOL KK?" im gonna sit there and go. "uhhh no. walk back im not wasting a reagent and 20 mins on you."
tfwagner2001 Jul 1st 2008 12:59PM
This sounds good. Let's get rid of the cooldown on Shaman self-rez while we're at it, or at least rez them away from the boss that they just died by.
CyberThoth Jul 2nd 2008 10:35AM
I love druid healers, until we wipe that is. As a warlock in the 5 man group I would obviously stone the healer, but it's kinda useless to do so on the druid. I remember a painful run of botanica with a druid; (.
I think it's a great idea, even if druid have to carry a regent of some sorts.

Woow the gold farmers have been reported off the wow servers and making their ways to blog sites.
FAIL!

There is a simple way to combat this "overpoweredness". When you are in a situation where a druid "could" rez you, just tell him you don't want him using that overpowered ability on you, that you'd prefer to run instead.
Some people can't see the forest for the trees.
And if the reason you're getting a healing spot over a druid is because of your rez, well, you're either playing with idiots or people who die all the freaking time. Just let us know who these groups are, and I promise, we'll let you keep them.
Naix Jul 1st 2008 2:12PM
I could not agree more. I can see it now.
Pally: Can I get an no so OP res?
Druid: Sorry I just got this new res and for some reason its OP.
Pally: I guess I'll just have to walk. Next time I will cast 10 bubbles and heal myself
