More tradeskill love and rewards in Wrath
To coincide with the earlier good news about factions (which is, apparently, bad news to some) we have a little more good news regarding reputation. As I am sure some people (Engineers) are painfully aware, representation was... uh, lacking for certain tradeskills in TBC factions.I actually enjoy grinding reputation simply because it gives me something simple and straightforward to do when I want to do something.... well, simple and straightforward. As much as I don't mind doing it, there still needs to be a sense of reward from it besides moving that little bar on the bottom of my screen upwards. I didn't grind out Kurenai simply because it wasn't rewarding. I got a Talbuk easier via Halaani PvP. I was lucky (or unlucky, depending on your view) as an enchanter, though. Our representation on faction vendors was quite high, and that only improved as The Burning Crusade progressed and the old AQ40 enchants made a comeback. I felt bad for my Engineering buddies that didn't really have much motivation to earn rep with anybody at all due to a complete lack of rewards.
The good news is that at the WWI's Raids and Dungeons panel, it was mentioned that a goal of theirs to be sure more tradeskills will be rewarded via factions, spread the love further, and just plain have more recipes. Again, as an Enchanter I had more than enough recipes to grind out all over Outland, but other tradeskills didn't quite receive that much love. It'll be nice to see my friends feel rewarded for their work in Wrath like I did throughout the leveling and gearing process in The Burning Crusade.

You are just totally unfair! Engineers had a schematic, at Consortium! How can you dare say Blizzard forgot us in this expansion completely? That from a respectable proffesion with a lot of trinkets and gizmos and stuff we became the creators of ammo and got a flying mount to shut up?
How dare you sir?
(Yes, i'm an engineer and i'm bitter)

It would definitely be nice to see some love for the engineers. It's nice that they tossed in a bunch of jewelcrafting patterns to catch them up, but come on... give us engineers something to work towards! :)

We do need some love. Oh we get some charges that blow doors open or a smoke flare. Woooo!!! /sarcasm.

I'm very tempted to drop engineering for inscription. Only keeping it for the primal farming right now. It's just not very much fun anymore being an engineer, especially after the novelty of the flying machine has worn off.

"especially after the novelty of the flying machine has worn off."
I thought it was the coolest thing ever until I took it out farming one day and after about 5 minutes, I couldn't take the sputtering and clunking noise anymore and had to switch to my Nether Ray. Thank god for quite farming mounts.

Yes the noise the chopper makes is annoying, but for me it is totally worth it since it will fit in my engineering bag and not take up an inventory space like all of my other mounts.

**I didn't grind out Kurenai simply because it wasn't rewarding. I got a Talbuk easier via Halaani PvP**
I call bullshit on this. You're telling me you got 15 research tokens easier than you could have ground up Kurenai rep? Hell, you probably hit exalted just getting the dust you needed.

Sadly, adding recipe's won't change the fact that 90% of them are pretty darn useless, whilst a couple are outrageously good, making most professions long gimmicky grinding quests, as well as screwing certain classes if they happen to make the wrong profession choices.
I find it kind of a shame that professions have gone from adding a personal touch to your character to simply being another long means to an end.

As a Blacksmith I went to wowwiki after hitting 70 to see which reputations to grind in order to get some plans. Lets see... Aldor/Scryer... (both of which are resist sets) done. Oh wait... I can grind exalted with a couple of factions for... more resist sets! Oh joy! Or go revered with Cenarion for a shield that's worse than a Zangarmarsh quest reward! Not to mention that at 375, regardless of whether you're weapon smith or armor smith, you get exactly 1 plan that's worth anything at 70.
I'd take engineering over BSing any day. But looking at the BC loot tables and rep rewards... I've started leveling my Jewel crafter again!

I'm cautiosly optimistic. TBC has pushed my tolerance for engineering to the limit. Yes, we has a nice hat. That's it. The mount is cool looking, but when you get down to it, it's just another (noisy) mount.
Hopefully we'll get more info about it soon/good amount of time before Wrath. If Engineering isn't looking up, hello inscription.
RogueJedi86 Jul 1st 2008 12:20AM
Jewelcrafters got like 50 recipes just from the Shattered Sun Offensive. Engineers got one rep recipes in all of BC, Elemental Seaforium Charge, Revered Consortium. And it was required to make your flying mounts.
If we follow the pattern of BC(JC got a billion rep recipes with the expansion that introduced it), WotLK will have 5 billion rep recipes for Inscriptions(and just 1 again for Engineering).

"I actually enjoy grinding reputation simply because it gives me something simple and straightforward to do when I want to do something.... well, simple and straightforward."
LOL you're the 1st I hear that enjoyes mindless grinding and hours of wasted time. Even Solitaire is more rewarding that grinding mobs.
Doc X Jul 1st 2008 11:04AM
It's even worse when you can't grind mobs to get reputation you need. Sha'tar, LC, Thrallmar/Honor Hold and CE come immediately to mind. I can't go out and solo grind to get these reps, I have to find a group to run through an instance (possibly Heroic) just to get some rep.
For someone who hates PUGs and whose guild has generally progressed past these instances, it kinda sucks. Gimme those "Rep tabards" so I can actually get SOME sort of rep running through Hyjal or Kara for the umpteenth time (already Exalted with Scales of the Sands and Violet Eye).
Sirg Jul 1st 2008 11:23AM
yes, that's the way I feel. It took me alot of effort to grind for the Honor Hold tabard. I wanted to roleplay as a HH member and I like how it looks. It took me many runs with the guild, and it was a pain.
There should be other dailies for Honor Hold and Consortium. Why there isn't any Violet Eye tabard? :(

Tailoring wasn't brilliantly represented either.
dan Jul 1st 2008 10:43AM
No but it was ridiculously OP.
gnoop Jul 1st 2008 4:57PM
Tailoring wasn't represented? You mean, with the three specializations that were pretty damn solid, the Whitemend items. Belt / Boots of Blasting, Spellfire, Swiftheal Mantle / Wraps, Spellstrike items, Battlecast Hood / Pants, Belt / Boots of the Long Road, and Mantle of Nimble Thought?
Yes, I can see how you might think that Tailoring was poorly represented.
/sarcasm

I was actually talking about rep recipes. I can't deny there was quite a lot of good (okay, essential) stuff out there. But in terms of the actual subject of this post, it wasn't represented that well, no.
