Reader WoWspace of the Week: Absoli
For as many different World of Warcraft players as there are out there, there are equally as many different WoWspaces for people to game in. Each week, we'll bring you a WoWspace sent in by one of our readers and let them tell you all about it. Would you like to share your own personal space? Just drop some pictures and your description to us here at readerwowspace AT gmail.com! This week, we visit the home of Absoli, who has a dark but interesting WoWspace -- and really needs a better camera.
I have several toons, but really now my main is my lvl 70 priest on Duskwood. I spent several years collecting bits and pieces for my setup and thought I'd share it with you all.
My most prized part of my computer are my dual monitors. Found a pair of 22" widescreen Samsung 2ms monitors at Frys in Burbank one day and decided I finally needed to upgrade to something I would keep for a while. They really make playing WoW an awesome experience. The computer itself I built before I moved to California in 2007. It is a 2.8GHz Pentium D dual core, with dual EVGA nVidia 6800GTS video cards (a bit out of date but 512Mb video RAM isn't too bad) and 4Gb system RAM. I currently have two HDs in it with around 1TB of space for all my music and games along with 3 external drives for other projects. I very much prefer my wireless keyboard and mouse (Logitech VX Revolution) but I also have stashed somewhere around there my old IBM clicky keyboard that I use a good portion of the time.
The speakers in the picture are Alesis studio monitors that I purchased for when I was making music with my friends. The other parts of that setup are the mini mixer, the external M-Audio sound card, and the Trigger Finger Sampler pad that is in one of the pictures.
The drink of choice is pretty obvious in this picture. Keeps me going as I work 5pm to 5am as a support astronomer while I am finishing my PhD. In the background you can see my TV which, when sitting in my chair, I can see right next to my left screen. This is my setup where I spend my time trying to avoid writing my dissertation. Ah, Procrastination, our love affair will someday come to an end.
That's all we have for this week's Reader WoWspace! If you're feeling brave and would like to show off your own personal space, drop us some WoWspace pictures and your description of the space to readerwowspace AT gmail.com. (And if you sent one in before but it wasn't featured, please re-send it so we have it!)

Syncmaster LCD screens FTW, I wish I had 2 of them, IMO those screens have to be the best value for money with an awsome 2ms screen refresh rate.

Sweet setup, gotta love to Samsung's I have 1 244t myself. I was at a friend of my brothers house and as I was leaving I saw his setup (I walked into the front door I was so mesmerized) 4 32" plasmas - 3 on bottom 1 on top. My god I was so jealous.

Oh ya I totally understand that. At work we use 4 20" displays side by side for our control room.
A friend of mine started this company that makes multi monitors from samsung LCD panels. Some are just SO sexy.

I mean look at this one:

8 20" monitors. my brain hurts just thinking about it.
They used to have ones with a 30" screen in the middle and a bunch of 19" widescreens around it. I think I will stick with my two 22" widescreens

Absoli: I really like your setup. I've been a big fan of Samsung's SyncMaster line for years.
Sadly, your friend's company is either (a) very clever in finding a way to make multi-screens more convenient to 'engineer' or (b) very good at ripping people off. A so-called 'Dual 19X' for $899? You could get *FOUR* of the same LCD screens that are used in that model from Newegg for the same price.

Looks awesome. I'm looking to go dual screen in the near future as well. Good luck with the dissertation; I'm about to start my own PhD adventure (History and Philosophy of Science) this fall.

Why would you need that big a screen!? or two for that matter?
btw here is my own blog on wow guides

Haha, nice!
Hollywood Ron Jul 2nd 2008 12:36AM
Or he can make his WoW guide good enough to be featured on the site in some capacity.

I can highly recommend using a 30" @ 2560x1600 for all your computer needs.
GamerJunkie Jul 2nd 2008 1:34AM
Looks like a basement or attic.. must be an "elite" player.
Absoli Jul 2nd 2008 3:51AM
haha its actually a 1 bedroom apartment in Los Angeles.
I dont have the time to be an "elite" player. And my schedule means I am not on at regular raid times. I have to be content with kara and za for the time being.

Thats pretty cool i just purchased a new comp myself with an HD 22" HP monitor with built in speakers. My new computer is also an HP with a quad video card and 3GB of ram and just a little shy of a TB of hard drive space. It runs so smooth I love it.
Maybe I should try and get my WoWspace up there.
fooliojenkins Jul 2nd 2008 3:51AM
Is it just me, or does it seems strange that he has 2 huge monitors, yet only one that shows wow and is crammed full of gigantic hotbars and addons? You can hardly see anything with all that crap on there. It just seems like a waste of all that real estate..
Absoli Jul 2nd 2008 5:40AM
ah well at that time I was just learning my pally tanking. and I was still in ungoro if you can tell that from the picture. everything was changed later once I hit 60 or so.
I hadnt figured out what abilities I needed yet :)
Also I liked to sit back in my chair away from my screen with my wireless keyboard on my lap and it was hard to see things so I made them bigger. They arent like that anymore

wow. nice.
