pgizzle Jul 1st 2008 12:41PM
what's wrong with gamers
they are performing a piece and you are clapping over them
FireStar Jul 1st 2008 4:30PM
Read the comment 3 lines down. Supposedly the composer told them to cheer when they wanted.

Jeez, if you are posting something thats supposed to have music in it you might want to consider having a level of sound quality above /totally bleeding awful/. I don't care how good they were, what *I* heard in the video was crap.
Rob Jul 1st 2008 1:14PM
Couldn't hear much of anything over the clapping. Kinda annoying IMO. For orchestra music, wait until the *end* of the show.

Anyone who was there (and yes I was) will tell you, Tommy (the compare) tells everyone at the start to cheer, whoop and hollah when they hear something they like. After having L70ETC play before hand everyone was stoked up so no way would there be "quiet" until the end. Instead of moaning about the sound, do yourself a favour and go see the show live when you can!

Ive been to VGL when it was up in Edmonton, it is worth going to see once. it brings the experience to a whole new level hearing the music live. Even the highest quality mp3 can't compare. Do yourselves a favor and buy a ticket.

Well, I found that hella enjoyable. I'd have loved to have been there. Hairs would stand up.

I got to see VGL when it came to Buffalo - it was so much fun! I highly recommend it.
Raegn Jul 1st 2008 10:54PM
Buffalo!!! I'm like 45 minutes away!
Anyways, I liked the video. I thought it lacked what most would consider "build up" but it was still nice.
Do they specialize in a particular field of video game music or is it open from consoles through PC games?
Moo Money Jul 2nd 2008 12:01AM
Raegn - They have more than 50 pieces prepared, but only have time to perform 20 of them. They perform console to PC, old to new. They cover Tetris, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, and more.

I saw VGL when they performed with the National Symphony Orchestra last year. I went in more excited to hear the NSO than to see Tommy Tallarico make an ass of himself but I tell you that show is damn impressive.
And never has there been anything more surreal than the National Symphony Orchestra, performing in the beautiful grand hall of the Kennedy Center, flanked by a cloaked and hooded choir providing the choral backing for Warcraft music. And then someone shouts "FOR THE HORDE!" and lo, another joins in.
At the Kennedy Center.
If anything their show will be getting much better as the conductor, Jack Wall, is also mister "Mass Effect Music", and some games that weren't out at the time of that show have been added to the orchestral setlist, such as Halo 3. Though when I went, Finish The Fight, the trailer theme was their first encore, followed by Advent:One Winged Angel (Electric Guitars and all).
Top it off with meeting Sid Motherfucking Meier at the end of the show, and getting your Civ Collection signed for reals, that's a good night.
Moo Money Jul 2nd 2008 12:02AM
Okay, I am officially SO jealous of you for meeting Sid Maier. I wish I knew who was coming to this one. Austin is a big area for game dev, so I'm crossing my fingers. Of course, I doubt that the man, the myth, the legend, aka RICHARD GARRIOTT will be there. :(
Gnomechewer Jul 5th 2008 1:45AM
jeeez... Lament of the Highborn... love it.
*If Richard Garriot shows up, he better wear his royal regalia. MY LORD BRITISH DOESNT WEAR JEANS, IT RUINS MY IMMERSION! Im sorry, i meant "m'lord"
