Beta selection is random, no emails yet
Nethaera has just come out and said that the beta selection process will be random. This is important for all of us to know: there will be no precedence or order associated with the opt-in. What does this mean? It means even if you sign up tomorrow you have a chance to get in, and that all of us who rushed to sign up when it just opened get no real benefit.Neth also lets us know that there are no beta emails going out just yet - and that they will "try" to let us know when they start sending out legitimate emails.
We want to reiterate again: be careful with the email scams. They will be flying around today like wildfire. Don't get caught up in one. Read our handy guide on how to keep yourself safe for more information.

Is there any official end date to signing up? I have already signed up myself.
Adam Holisky Jul 3rd 2008 3:45PM
No end date has been announced.

Makes me wonder...she said selection will be random, but she didn't say if it was random from everyone that opts in, or if it's random inside of groups of people (aka, you downed illidan, you're in a pool that is randomly selected from).

Blizzard likes to hear from all types of players, PvE, PvP, and casual, so I doubt that they would restrict selection in that kind of way. Most likely it's randomly selected from the pool of people that opted in.

Looks to me like random is random. As in, putting your name in is like buying a raffle ticket.
CursedSeishi Jul 3rd 2008 3:48PM
Damn, guess jumpin to the site the second i heard about it isnt going to do much for me lol.

Obviously use your common sense a little bit when figuring if you'd be eligible, I think we can definitely say the only REAL requirement is having at least one character at level 70, because as far as I know there isn't any lower-level content being added.
BitterCupOJoe Jul 3rd 2008 4:54PM
Inscriptions are being added, and it's probably worthwhile knowing how fast/easy the profession is for someone without a large number of resources to draw on.
Kadamon Jul 3rd 2008 6:25PM
I'd have to say level 55 is the actual requirement. Y'know, for Deathknights.

What's the signup URL?

You guys arent getting the big picture,
1. Why in the world would it be only 70s, Wotlk is for everyone to enjoy the new features (Like new BGs) that lower levels may be elligible for.
2. Remember Wotlk means Deaths Knights and Death Knights apply to all those 55+
Retron Jul 3rd 2008 4:42PM
Just because the initial selection is random doesn't mean they won't disqualify a large percentage for all kinds of reasons, if only to guarantee a certain proportional cross-section of players.

And of course, they make no mention of how this affects those of us who got beta codes at Blizzcon 07... /sigh
Slyght Jul 3rd 2008 4:55PM
Assuming that beta sign-up code was for WotLK (which blue posters have more-the-less confirmed it is), all Blizzcon 07 and WWI 08 attendees already have guarunteed access to the beta. Beta hasn't started yet, so nobody has recieved an invite.
I've been guessing for a while now that Beta will start July 18, and the opt-in starting 2 weeks before that supports that theory. Blizzard's a fan of "two weeks notice".
slimj091 Jul 3rd 2008 5:06PM
usually people with beta codes get first crack at getting in than people that just sign up for the beta through the site.
the good money is on anyone that doesn't have a beta code from blizzcon 07, or WWI won't get into beta until nearly the end of testing depending on the developers needs for a player tester force.
rick gregory Jul 3rd 2008 5:18PM
Thanks guys. I assume that I'll get an invite and I'm OK if not... it just frustrates me that Blizz doesn't seem to anticipate the most basic questions and have answers ready and posted on the page. It's not rocket science - i bet we could all come up with 5-10 questions that will be common in, oh, 5-10 mins. So why don't they construct an FAQ and have it on the site? yes, Neth says they'll do this soon... but... um... they knew this was coming. Have it done beforehand!

Seems the WWI key is working now, fingers crossed for a reply soon.
Sonburn Jul 3rd 2008 5:11PM
I went to Blizzcon last year, and people that attended were told they would get access to a future beta. I am a little annoyed that there is no mention of this anywhere.
Lucas J Jul 3rd 2008 6:39PM
Go to the blizzard beta opt in page, it's mentioned there.
Sonburn Jul 3rd 2008 6:46PM
Thanks for the tip!
