It's 12:01 a.m.: Do you know where your beta key is?
The rumor mill has been flying lately that on July 3rd we'll see the first invites go out for the closed beta. Well, it's 12:01 a.m. on July 3rd now, and that means Beta Watch 2008 can begin. All of this beta rumor stems around a German Assistant Community Manager by the name of Gnorog telling the German gaming site Allvatar that the closed beta was going to be starting on July 3rd. It was "fueled" a little bit more in that Bornakk did not come out and deny the July 3rd date, something that they have regularly done before.
Another small indication that something is changing is that the Wrath of the Lich King forums have seen several sticky post removed. They normally do this only when new information is about to come out to replace said sticky posts.
It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. And if you do happen to get into the beta, feel free to drop us a tip. Happy waiting!

Blizzard is a West Coast company and most updates are on PST time so the keys would probably, if they do come, be sent at 12:01 PST.
phenger Jul 3rd 2008 12:11AM
12:01 AM PST = 2:01 AM CST (for me)....and I'll be up waiting for it :)
Good luck to everyone who cares to get in.

The true countdown probably shouldn't start until Blizzard hits midnight, PST, which will be in about 160 minutes of this post.

From previous WoW betas, Blizzard will send you an e-mail with a link to their website and a 20 character key (similar to the CD keys used in their games) and have you fill in the key and only your username to grant you access to the beta. They will never EVER ask for any other info, like your password, so be careful, and as always, until you see that the beta sign-ups have begun on their main web site, don't fall for the scams.

so...if you get a beta key..how would it be sent to you than?
Taeous Jul 3rd 2008 12:35AM
It will be an official email sent from blizzard. Probably from noreply@blizzard.com if i remember correctly. The email will be sent to the account you listed in your Account Management on the website.

Blizzard HQ is located in CA, PST time. Blizzard always works off PST time.

Heii Jul 3rd 2008 1:02AM
I know where my beta-key is. Somewhere between 'Getting one', 'Sending one now', and 'Realm of Non-existance.'

To echo everyone, yes, Blizzard is a West Coast company, therefore everything on the site is done in PST time. Even then, this rumor is really silly I think.
Eternalpayn Jul 3rd 2008 1:04AM
I would bet money that they aren't sending keys out today, but announcing when they will.

Ok....say it is true that the Beta starts on July 3rd.
What makes people certain that it'll happen at 12:01a?
I'm assuming this is based on what's happened in the past? Did BC beta start in this way?
