Forum post of the day: The future is not what it used to be
With the Wrath Beta Opt-in available, we're one step closer to the expansion. We're all anxiously awaiting the time when the expansion is ready. I'm still having fun with the existing World of Warcraft, but I'm a bit antsy. There is a lot of frustration over existing conditions, especially when it comes to PvP.
Chloroform of EU-Magtheridon isn't interested in waiting. He listed his grievances in the EU-PVP Forum, "Balance issues, queue times, destroying premades, AFK problems, uneven teams, world pvp screwed by 9000yd aggro range ultra guards." Like many others, Jasse of EU-Bronzebeard blames the arena for the death of PvP.
Several others agree that the system is broken, but blame the lack of action on Blizzard's part on a scarcity of quality competition. Thus far, Age of Conan has failed to unseat WoW as the king of MMORPGS. Gaelaen of Wildhammer is convinced that Warhammer Online will also fall short of dethroning WoW. As evidenced by millions of subscriptions we still enjoy our game, bugs and all.
I know the system isn't perfect. This is my first MMORPG and I'm still really impressed with it. I'm planning on enjoying the time between now and the expansion. I'm not entirely convinced PvP will be fixed in Wrath of the Lich King, it will probably just be broken in different ways.
Many things will change. Blizzard does welcome feedback, and often acts on it. There will always be things that people complain about. Do you believe that Wrath will make WoW a better game?

I am FED UP with players who think this game is broken.
Wow is about the best MMORPG and most polished MMORPG that ever existed? Pve AND Pvp
Every time a player is headed his own head on a sliver plate in PvP, he's complaining about it in the wheeny forums.
I can counter 99.8 % of the arguments of all complainers, but I am fed up with it. In enjoy the WoW game too much after 3 years than to look at silly amateurish complainers.
The WORST arguments in order of most ridicolous:
TBC destroyed old Wow: A complete and utter worthless argument. Just look at the quality on the quests, dungeons, raids, arena fights AND the better balance of classes.
Arena destroyed PvP: a laugh. TBC made it to a recognised e-sport. The only one in MMO land btw.
Epics are now free: bullshit. The players decides NOW how he obtains his epics. No longer the hardcore guys can brag on the corners of SW. They too now have to word AND play good for their epics instead of "following" te friends in 40 men groups.
My biggest satisfaction is when I see BT geared "old epic" player who can't get over the 1420+ arena rating. Showing PvP skill is just a complete other thing than following the raiders 6 days a week .
:))
So stop the complaining please because the competition is NOWHERE to be found. Not in a 100 miles.

The way I see it, there are three kinds of people who play WoW: the casuals, raiders, and pvpers. These classes of players will always be at odds with each other because of the amount of time they devote to a single objective. The casuals will always whine that they never get to fight Illidan because it requires too much time. The raiders will always whine because even though they devote a large amount of time to the game, they can't stand their own in pvp due to a "gear imbalance". The pvpers will always whine because someone still outgears/outranks them in their own totem pole.
There's hardly a way these three classes can live together harmoniously. If you made pvp gear bound to battlegrounds/arenas, it would lower the complaining about world pvp imbalance from the raiders/casuals, but the pvpers would undoubtedly cry over spilled milk. If you made raid encounters easier so the casuals (and pvpers) could experience the end-game content, the raiders would whine that it takes the epic thrill out of finishing a boss and voids all their hard work and dedication. If you catered to the casuals and increased the number of quests, lowered the raid requirements, and made it easier (psh, easier?) to get pvp gear... well, the game would in fact lose some of it's epic quality and become just another game wherein you play for a few months, beat the game, and move on to the next one.
My point? None really, just that even if Blizzard released the expansion tomorrow people would still complain. If they waited for another year and tried to "fix" the current problems, people would still complain. If they gave everyone $5,000 in cash and a new Porsche they would still complain about -something-. People put into an environment where they must compete with each other in any way will always complain.

Hey I dunno if you've looked around or not, but aside from the PvP gear being bound to PvP everything you just said has already come true haha.
PvP gear is easier to get. Raiding is becoming easier for casuals. They did increase the quests and gear. Oh, and PvPers do cry over spilled milk, and the raiders do cry about how they worked oh-so-hard (because a game is hard work) and now casuals can do it too.

Actually, remember that WotlK is giving us 10-man raids. That actually makes the casuals, PvPers and classic raiders happy: Everyone can see the endgame content, and the classic raiders still get to hyperoptimize their guild to hell and back. That seems to be making everyone happy. We won't know if it works until the expansion actually hits, but to me it seems pretty damn smooth.

think the TBC basic concept of gear balance was good. I know a few people who raid often that used arena gear to get going. Today BG gear is better than anything that you will get in normal dungeon or Karazan. I am actually afraid blizzard trying to justify Arena with team rating will actually ruin the benefit to raiding that arenas offered in TBC, in Wraith.
But saying that I think Arena and BG gear need to be balanced better. Maybe taking weapons from Arena in exchange for trinkets and ring from BG, so that the primary DPS gear from weapon is more evenly given out to all players. They will also have to make sure that the gear is more even with raiding progression. So that PVP ant superior to the average raiding gear. Blizzard, tried a bit in later season, but it was really easier to get better DPS gear from arenas than raiding.
In my opinion trinkets and maybe even ring, can be specified better for PVP than weapons, which usually the better DPS the one you want. With trinket you can give uniquely PVP function abilities that are cool in PVP, but not very useful in PVE. Examples, something that gives stun and charm resistant not just resilience. Maybe even an item that give an extra talent point. Which would be more useful in PVP than in raiding. But giving specific PVP gear is one of the weaknesses in arena gear in my opinion. After all gladiators are suppose to be an entertainment style of combat not pure battle gear, like they gave out. Leave that kind of gear from primary BG. Blizzard wasn’t that creative with respect to gear in TBC, in my opinion.

Waits for EU person to do the same to a US post. :P

one other solution that comes to mind would be to have alternate abilities when fighting in arenas / BG.
I'm a pure PVE guy, and it bugs me when I hear my class is getting nerfed / modified because of the damn Arena (AGAIN!)
I think the same talent should provide 2 abilities:
- when fighting MOBS
- when fighting Players

LoL why do people still whine and cry about AV and the other BGs?
MAKE-A-PRE-MADE
Thats it,problem fixed stop crying.Blizz has added many ways to point at the afkers, many ways so people end with equally geared but in the end some things just cant be completly fixed because its the players problem.
Yeesh they are just BGs anyway, not like if it was hard to get everything you can with Honor points in less than 2 weeks .
Wanna QQ about something?
How about the lack of incentive or facilitys to make world PVP,the lack of any option at all to do PVP with good rewards that does not involve arena or the poor specs that are still dead because of resil.

For all you people complaining about imbalanced classes in PvP, you need to shut up. PvP now is so much more balanced and easier to get gear than it ever used to be. PreBC there was no balance between classes in PvP. A geared warrior could win a WSG single handly, just like a geared enhancement shaman could. PreBC there was no easy to get full season two gear. You either were rank13/14 and had the best PVP gear, or you had nothing. So if you went up against someone geared in the r13/14 gear you were going to get 2-3 shotted without a doubt. Nowadays with the amount of resil and stam in the game its impossible to do that amount of damage. Even if your in full s2 and go up against a s3/s4 geared character you have a chance if you have any skill at all. While PreBC even if you were skilled you were 3 shotted. Before complaining about the current state of PvP, please look at how far it has come to reach this current state.
Azrahel Jul 4th 2008 10:50PM
The main problem at the moment is the rather large gap between s2 and s3 weapons. especially in regards to the melee weapons. The difference in top end between the s2 ans3 two handers is 40. Fourty to end is not just a minor upgrade like the armor The difference between s1 and s2 weapons which is 36 but s1 to s3 is 76) I think all of us melee players know that even minor top end difference can be huge but this huge jump basically means that some one with a s2 weapon cannot beat some one with s3. A team that has full s3 or even just the weapons is generally unbeatable by a team with 4/5 with out weapons.
On my battle group it was very difficult to reach 1850 unless you played a cookie cutter make up if not impossible. Even then it was very difficult, the fact that their is now a rating buffer in place on the weapons the problem is that players that dident reach 1850 last season will have even less of a chance of reaching it this season let alone 2000. This basically lowers the amount of arena players in the top tiers artifically. As some one else put it the rich get richer. If you havent had a full arean set since s1 you basically are playing an un winnable game of catch up. When you are facing people with 4/5 brutal when you are only at 1550 you are basically screwed.

I don't think it's possible to fix all of WoW's problems, nor will it ever be. I think WoW 2 will fix everything, and a couple years later the problems will resurface, so we'll get WoW 3. I think we need to have a new WoW before we get a 3rd expansion.
Perrins Jul 4th 2008 2:39PM
hmmm interesting question: what game would you think would upset WoW?
