I think this is the most well written piece on this site that I've ever read. And I agree 100% - being a mage myself, I'm finding our class to be quite lacking lately. Cheers! And hopefully something actually happens by the time Wrath pops out.

Have you guys not even looked at the proposed talents and skills for mages in wotlk? Your damage coefficients are going through the roof. I don't know a single warlock that isn't re-rolling a mage right now because of it. Mages are getting fixed. You're going to reclaim your aoe damage title from locks. All will be well.

@dan:That may be true. But they did similar things for TBC, then promptly nerfed the mages because lots of other classes whined about mages being too good. So it may be a good sign for mages, but it's also a bad omen.

@danI'll be willing to believe Warlocks are re-rolling when someone tells me why Demonform and AoE Shadowbolts aren't better than any AoE we will be able to muster.Living Bomb? Haha yeah. Right.
