Have you ever seen a warlocks damage output from Mount Hyjal?Mages are not the kings of AoE... Not by a mile. AoE is mana intensive... Warlocks have an unlimited amount via their healers. Mages are limited by cooldowns and potions. Going OOM after casting a spell 10 times does not lead to high damage, it leads to incredibly low damage over the course of a fight.Mage has 2 forms of ranged aoe (1 fire, 1 frost) and 5 forms of melee range AoE (4 of which are on CD's). Of all of these forms of AoE, only 2 are really spamable. Of the 3 forms of AoE without Cooldowns only 2 are truely spamable.Flamestike leaves a DoT on the ground preventing subsequent casts from stacking on each other. This is not spamableBlizzard is terribly expensive and cannot crit. 1645 mana for 8 seconds of mediocre AoE? No thanks... going OOM in under a minute is not really that great of an idea.Arcane explosion: The only truely spamable AoE spell mages have... And it puts them in melee range and 110% of aggro (not 130% like being at range)... Squishiest class in the game... Mixed with lower Aggro threshold... Mixed with being in ranged of large groups of monsters... Yes... that is a great idea...Mages need ranged aoe and a way to return their mana after using it. Because going OOM after 30 seconds generally leads to piss poor damage... To be a master of AoE you need intelligent Targeting (SoC?), not a circle that you cast on the ground and hope that mobs stay in, but a way to keep the damage on targets... And you need a way of keeping range so that if/when you pull aggro you have time for you and your healers to react...
