C'mon, source of mage ire should be "warlock."
Hory Jul 6th 2008 9:28AM
I got halfway through this and figured out that the permanent marker is probably not good for my monitor. :P
Carbon Jul 6th 2008 9:58AM
If this becomes a featured... uh.. feature, I'd enjoy this.
Jeanluc Jul 6th 2008 9:53AM
It would be better if this was an online interactive form, I don't have a printer :(
Also, I second the mage ire being warlock.
Warcloud Jul 6th 2008 12:24PM
Well, yeah, most people have a printer..
LWildes Jul 6th 2008 10:05AM
You need to add a printer friendly version next time. To print this would involve half a container of black ink.
morgil Jul 6th 2008 11:41AM
lol, first thing i thought when i read "mages ire" was warlock also too as well

Managed to get the majority of it, but still having problems with some. The issue I've always had with homemade crossword puzzles is that there isn't enough crossing of words (i.e. there might be just 2-3 words that cross another word, instead of 5+ like you get in professionally done puzzles). Makes them extremely difficult if you can't fall into the exact same line of thought as the puzzle creator. Even if you can guess the correct answer, if the word only has one letter in common with another clue, you can hardly be sure that you got the correct answer.
That said, I too would like to see this become a regular feature. It's a fun idea.

It would be prohibitively difficult to create a crossword that is both completely WoW-themed and constructed with each square being part of a down answer and an across answer. At some point, the puzzlemaker will wind up having to use short filler words that aren't specific to the theme.
If you want a WoW crossword that is a regular feature here, this simpler format is probably perfect, although maybe less ambiguous clues would help you be more sure of your answers. If the blogger were able to regularly create the more complex puzzles that you want, though, she would do better to sell her work to various MMO magazines than to post the puzzles here.
As for the presentation of this feature, it'd be cool if it were done using the Across Lite crossword software or something like it. That would address the printability problem and the urge to use permanent marker on one's monitor.

Oh, please don't misunderstand. I wasn't complaining about the difference between professional crossword puzzles and ones of this sort. Rather, I was just commenting on the difference. I know that it would be prohibitively time consuming to build puzzles like that for a weekly feature. I wasn't trying to suggest that anything like that SHOULD be done. I was merely pointing out that this type is sometimes more difficult because of those differences.

cool idea, but gotta agree with Aichon
another tip: list the number of characters in the answer on the question page
eg.
ACROSS
1. Source of mage ire (3)
4. Razor beast (6)

What's this a map of? I think I went through it last week.
Hudson Jul 7th 2008 1:25AM
Ooh, I like this new idea of a wow crossword. Keep it up please.
Numskull Jul 7th 2008 1:02AM
The numbers on the crossword are a bit hard to see :(
hoss Jul 7th 2008 11:50AM
Love the idea and I hope someone keeps it up, however crosswords, at least good ones, tend to follow some rules; symmetry for example. It not only adds more challenge to the designer but to the solver.
boo Jul 7th 2008 3:31PM
i like this idea a lot. i hope to keep seeing it every week. please make the numbers easier to read on the printable puzzle, i've been squinting at them all morning. :(
Zerubabble Jul 7th 2008 9:27PM
So who wants to start a discussion of answers somewhere? I want to check mine and I can't wait till Sunday.
Shad0wembrace Jul 8th 2008 5:12PM
I had a really hard time reading the numbers after printing and even reading them on the computer.
