BigRedKitty: Void Reaver Hunter-guide movie
Daniel Howell contributes BigRedKitty, a column with strategies, tips and tricks for and about the Hunter class, sprinkled with a healthy dose of completely improper, sometimes libelous, personal commentary.
Void Reaver used to be called Loot Reaver, thanks to a nifty addon called VoidReaverAlarm that made this fight as simple as, "Run to the Happy Face!" But then Blizz went and bamboozled us all by honking-up the Combat Log for this fight, making that addon useless. Since then, great gaggles of guilds have come to detest this fight and avoid it out of fear of wiping.
Well no more; it's time for you to get back in there and get your shoulders.
Void Reaver is a great opportunity for you to hone your huntering-skills and impress everybody with your ability to do damage when it counts and avoid damage when necessary. Void Reaver drops your tier five shoulder tokens and some awesome hunter-pants. With a little instruction, you and your guild can get back to Tempest Keep and score some phat loot for yourself.
/ninja hunter-pants
This video demonstrates the "traditional" method of fighting Void Reaver, not the, "Everybody in the middle except two kiting-hunters" method. We hope to do that movie in the near future.

Another great big Thank You to the WoW Insider editors for allowing us to publish this movie both here and on our little blog at the same time!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been waiting to see how you do VR.

Hmm, we never used the addon.
My rule of thumb was to have people keep his top half in view so that they could SEE the orb's coming.
Due to this we never skipped a beat, but honestly he had been on farm for a long time before the data log change.

What Sonmerlong said. I did VR for the first time last week and after the first couple of attempts had no problems dodging orbs, as I just sat there with my view set so that I could see all of reaver (and little to no floor).

Re: the orbs. Also, it's worth remembering that if an orb appears to be moving much, it's going off to one side. If it stays in the same place on your screen, that's because it's heading right for you!

...but the combat log issue has long since been fixed so what's the problem? It's been business as usual on loot reaver ever since.
Heilig Jul 7th 2008 4:30PM
No, the combat log issue has been CLAIMED to be fixed multiple times. It hasn't actually BEEN fixed yet. Hence the 2 hunter cheese method.

My guild hasn't had an issue with it. Even when it was super buggy and no reporting was happening. YMMV.

Why does it look like you're the only one moving through that whole fight? lol
Regardless, nice video & thanks for the good info :)

Could you just talk normally in the video? Why were you carrying on like that? It's not entertaining, it just makes people squirm.

lol, great video!

This guy is a hero..
This is the best thing on WoW Insider.
He's funny, plays his class like a genius and it gives solo-types the chance to see some end-game.
Keep them coming, BRK!

Strafing is more likely to get others killed.

Another important thing Hunters can do is help out with the knockback mechanic. Basically the tanks will be getting their aggro periodically dropped, Hunters should do their best to Misdirect the lowest of the several tanks on every cooldown.
It's definately cool if your tanks can generate enough threat on their own without straight frontal melee damage, esp since there's a lot of raid damage in melee range generating rage. But over time your damage-dealers with no threat-dropping abilities will surpass the tanks even if Omen doesn't reflect that they're higher.

great videos i read about the fight in theory but this shows how the arcane orbs look like and where do i have to look to avoid them :) as i was expecting something else like a orb travelling straight on the ground.

What kind of seriously bad hunter needs a "guide" to Void Reaver? Stand and shoot, strafe to one side every few seconds. None of you get hit by cars crossing the street in real life do you? Then don't get hit by bombs. Effin' look where you're going, it's the easiest fight in the game for a ranged class.
