As someone who sees the world through an academic and media deconstructionist lens, I am always incredibly surprised at how little attention people actually pay to the entertainment they consume.

While I distance myself from the academic paper language, I do think there is a lot of value in dissecting and understanding things. I'd much rather people did more thinking and talking about ideas/art/media. The U.S. in particular is suffering a severe shortage of people with adequate critical thinking skills.
