Oceanic players get their own forum
Bornakk announced yesterday that Blizzard has launched a new forum specifically for players on Oceanic realms. It is intended to be a "friendly and focused environment" for Oceanic players to discuss WoW. Of course, the Oceanic realms still have their individual forums and this has caused some confusion among the forum posters regarding why the forums were established. And it wouldn't be forums without trolls.
I, for one, see the value of a forum for Oceanic players to discuss their specific issues and to be able to find players in similar situations without searching the U.S. forums and without being limited to specific servers.
If you are an Oceanic player, please take our poll:
| Yes! It's about time! | |
|---|---|
| No, the individual realm forums are all we need. | |
| I don't care unless this takes us a step closer to local realms and green latency bars. | |
| I'm not an Oceanic player, but I don't want to feel left out. |

Maybe this is a sign that we are actually getting a proper Oceanic realm?
Oh well, I can still dream!

My initial kneejerk reaction was "Why should Oceanic players get special treatment?" but then I remembered what horrible flak they get when they post about their latency issues on the US forum and considering that, I think it's a good thing they get their own forum.

Bad idea, imho. More forums = more spread information. We have the same topcis on US and EU forums. Now we'll have US, EU and OCeanic to add more confusion.

As a player on Khaz'goroth, there are only a few issues I have
1. The server crashes w/ annoying regularity making raids extremely difficult
2. Regular lag spikes experienced by the entire server achieving pings of 1200+
3. Scheduled down time during peak times AEST
4. Standard ping of most players around 300 - 450. This of course isn’t so much of an issue in pve, but can make pvp difficult
All of these issues are fixable. The problem is I don't think Blizzard takes this part of the world seriously or at least not seriously enough to warrant attention. Perhaps opening a Blizzard office in Aus/NZ to properly service the Oceanic region?

"I, for one, see the value of a forum for Oceanic players to discuss their specific issues"
Basically everyone is going to QQ about not having real Oceanic servers. Including me.

I've never found anything useful on the regular forums and I doubt if Oceanic forums will improve on that.

All this will do is make it so that the concerns of Oceanic players are never heard from again. US players will probably celebrate this move as they will no longer need to endure our whining.
Obviously I chose 'I don't care unless this takes us a step closer to local realms and green latency bars.'
Who gives a damn about forums? I play the game, not the forums - fix that.
Beaverius Jul 9th 2008 6:38AM
Why not just make an Oceanic realm? There are alots of Aussie and NZ folks that play on my server and i feel bad that they have to endure the less optimal connections.
@8.... I don't mind the whining, you should really have a server in your area of the world, period. They have asian servers in Asia, north american servers in north america, european servers in europe, but why no oceanic servers?

One use I can see for this new forum is guild recruitment.
I have had trouble finding guilds in a suitable time zone for me, even on the Oceanic realms.
This new forum however, could be used for those oceanic guilds to post openings without them getting lost within the massive amount of US postings in the guild recruitment forum.

Wow, Oceanic players get their forums, Spanish players get their forums (US that is), now can we wait for Brazilians and French-Canadians to maybe, uuh, I don't know, at least get a forum so we can help eachother out in a "friendly and focused environment"
that's my QQ
Gazoo Jul 9th 2008 10:59AM
Wow. Blizzard caves again.
Never seen such whining in my life, as I've seen from oceanic players. You, as a group, have voted twice.... not once, but TWICE, to accept the current Oceanic service and your still crying for special treatment.
You got what you asked for, quit being such bloody crybabies.
MeOnFire Jul 9th 2008 11:33AM
Easy for you to say! You have a server in your part of the world, we dont! Only in name!
Come over here and try it. I tell ya it f*#ken sucks. :(
MeOnFire Jul 9th 2008 11:38AM
and where and when was this vote??? Noone told me about it O_o
its the first I've heard of it!
Mabye it might come up on our new forums hehe
Daikin Jul 9th 2008 7:06PM
There was a vote? When? Where?
GGF.

We can all hope that this may signal a move to Oceanic servers in Aus/NZ but seriously I doubt it. I don't think that Blizz gives a continental about this part of the world.
I've done my research and all their statistics point to 8:00 pm Aus time as a low in player numbers - hence this is the maintenance / realm restart time. This is absolute rubbish. I've played on a number of Oceanic realms and due to work committments play alot at 5:00 am Aus time - the time the servers have to back up for "peak" player use. The game is empty of players at that time EVERY day, but it is ALWAYS packed with players at 8:00pm Aus time.
Sure, I admit the figures would be significanlty different for US servers, but there are a hell of a lot of Oceanic players and Blizz has never shown any love to them.
The only chance we have of getting what we want is if Warhammer is a success and provides Oceanic servers like it promised. A big hit to Blizz's bottom line may shake things up, nothing else has.
There has never been any love for Oceanic servers and i doubt there ever will.

Forum latency is a problem that needs solving eh? The forum pvp-ers will love that...
Well, it's nice that we have our own official little corner but hardly the problem that needs addressing. Like a restaurant that doesn't server food but gives you a guestbook so you can enter your comments and discuss it.
