The Guild DVD is available for pre-order
Many exciting things have been happening lately for fans of The Guild, the 'sitcom webisode' that we often post about on WoW Moviewatch.
Not only did they recently open a web store that sells shirts and other goodies, but the complete DVD for season one just became available for pre-order.
It's actually a great deal. For $20, you'll get the entire first season, two exclusive gag reels, commentary, interviews, subtitles, and even audition footage. Better yet, you get free shipping, and you'll have your DVD shortly after it releases on August 1st.
For fun facts about The Guild, check out the statistics and links on their Press Page. Did you miss the season finale? We have links and opinions for each episode.

I enjoyed these shorts - but am I the only one who thinks, 'Do I need them all on one disc on my shelf'. Isn't this why they were produced for the Internet to begin with?

Kids today and their "everything is free because I can get it on the Internet" ... ok, I'll stop being a curmudgeonly old man.
Sometimes having a physical form of something is worth it. Take WoW. People spent LOTS more on the Collectors Edition than the regular edition, even though it's the same basic product. People buy the DVD sets of Family Guy, even though that show runs in syndication on so many stations that it's lost its novelty. I have an iPod and iTunes account, yet 99.99% of my music comes from LP purchases.

Does anyone wonder if comments like mine could convince WoW Insider to stop "reporting" on a show that isn't funny that has nothing to do with WoW?

While there are those that will say "Why are you selling it now?" Well this stuff does cost money to produce people. And since I count half the cast as peeps I know and enjoy hanging with personally, I shall support my "guildies"

That you, D-Lux?

@2 LP? You really are old if you are still buying vinyl. ;)

Everything about this show sucks, the central character doesn't even play WoW iirc. Why is this worthy of a blog post again?

She used to, and EQ too.

Make it Blu-ray and I'll buy it.

Milktub I think that you and I are fossils of an age long since past. An age where the box was as much a treat as the contents. An age where packaging was a marketing supercombo move that transferred our hard earned dollars into cash registers and store shelved goodies into logo'ed bags that we carried home. An age where getting stuff meant that there were plastic wrappers to dispose of.
Ah, to long for the days where men where men and stuff wasn't just bits.
But on a more serious note: I salute all those that purchase this DVD. And it's not just b/c I think Ms. Day is so adorable. Like hot adorable. Like hot hot. Ok, she's cute. But other than that I think that the creators and cast of the show deserve to be rewarded.
These shows are, or at least originally (I don't know the current situation), produced independently. They foot the bill to create something that so many people enjoyed and want more of. So why shouldn't a fan give something back?
Is it so wrong to say that Ms. Day and her crew deserve some cake for all the work they have done? Shouldn't they be encouraged to produce more of this type of content? I mean you can't pay the bills with YouTube downloads. Any enterprising venture deserves to be compensated. And these people certainly deserve to reap the rewards of all their hard work.
So yes Milktub, I will buy it. And I will (hopefully) have plastic wrapping to toss out and something nifty to put on my shelf. Because in the end I am still in an age where men are men and stuff is stuff.
Did I mention that Ms. Day was cute?

So how much they pay you?
wade Jul 10th 2008 8:29AM
@Milktub
Your cool.

Woot! I'm glad to see it coming, and plan to get myself one. I am also one of those "old" people that actually love to have something I can hold in my hand.

Hi!
Noticed this thread, thought I would reply to it. I respect anyone who doesn't enjoy the show, that's your right. Obviously you won't want the DVD :) But I can't let this go unanswered: As a matter of fact I do play WOW, I have a 64 warlock, a 61 priest, a 23 mage and a 35 rogue. The show isn't WOW specific for copyright reasons, so that's why we don't use WOW terminology.
We made the DVD as nice as we could to be worth the extra purchase. There's at least 40 minutes of extra material, including English subtitles, cast and director commentary, extra gag reels, interviews and other bonuses. The picture quality is much better to watch as well. Also, the package and menus are pretty :) If you want those things, great. If you just want to watch the show on YouTube, great also.
I am also writing the next season now, and we'll be at Comicon meeting fans and at PAX.
Also Digital Prophet, when you buy, put in a note with the purchase and I'll sign the DVD for you before I send it. Cause you called me hot. LOL! :)
Thanks!
XOXO
Felicia
