Forum post of the day: Moving moments
Since its inception World of Warcraft has been an evolving game. Someone who played only shortly after release would hardly recognize the game now. Blizzard has always welcomed feedback, but some changes have elicited more feedback than others. In a thread entitled "Epic moments in WoW QQ history," Gatsukaa chronicled some of the most upsetting events that have occurred in the evolution of our game:
WoW is first released. Hunter and warlock pets could be one-shot. Hunter dps was pretty lackluster. Soulstones gave you rez sickness (I think). No soulshards from PvP. The first emo whiners in WoW were born: Hunters and Warlocks. World of Roguecraft video is released showing how a rogue in crap gear could wtfpwn people while warlocks were so gimp. Result is that warlocks went on to get buffed in nearly every patch as they were on their way to god-hood. No more world of roguecraft videos. Hunters saw substantial improvements as well, but weren't made into demigods.
Moment 2:
Mages with both Talisman of Ephemeral Power and Zandalarian Hero Charm could stack the trinkets' on-use effects to drastically increase spell damage. Coupled with Arcane Power and PoM Pyro, such mages could one shot almost anyone. Massive QQ on the forums ensues. Result is that trinkets no longer stack such on-use effects (one exception was a glitch that allowed Hex Shrunken Head and Skull of Gul'dan to stack, but that was later fixed).
Moment 3:
Before Burning Crusade, the best PvP gear was PvE gear. Raiders in tier 2 and tier 3 gear ruled the Battlegrounds. Massive QQ from casuals ensued. Result was resilience and arena gear without any rating requirement for the first few seasons in TBC.
Moment 4:
TBC is released. About a month later as most people hit 70 and begin running level 70 five mans and heroic dungeons, it becomes apparent that druids are one of the best tanks if not THE best tanks for 5 mans. Massive warrior QQ ensues. Result is that druid tanking is drastically nerfed..
Moment 5:
Alterac Valley is redesigned. Suddenly, Horde are winning on average 80% of AV games on most servers based on forum estimates. Massive alliance QQ ensues.
Moment 6:
Blizzard toys with the idea of nerfing lifetap on the PTR. Before the nerf is even implemented on the PTR, massive warlock QQ ensues. Result is that the change is never implemented on the PTR and thus never got patched into the actual game.
Now yes, this thread could be seen as a troll on the forums. When you take a step back, though, it's actually kind of fascinating to look at where we've been. These are examples of Blizzard taking action on common complaints. There have been plenty of other events that have caused a stir, but we've since learned to live with.
I remember when cross-realm battlegrounds first started. By the way players were complaining you would have thought it was the end of the world... of Warcraft, or at least PvP. I was a little miffed at first, and there are still man problems, mostly on a social level. But I remember hour-long WSG queues prior to the shift. I'd go to dinner and ask one of my guildies to call my cell phone if the queue popped. I don't miss that.
Think of all the incidents when they've implemented player requests. We have flying mounts now, though they are admittedly limited. Horde got Paladins, and
What did Gatsukaa miss in her list of player demanded changes?

Yeah i would agree that most of the biggest changes implemented seem to be focused on "balancing pvp", but unfortunately i dont think that will ever end. Some changes aimed even at pvp itself. We can all probably remember a time when there were no arenas (ahhh those were the days), but there was also a time when there were no battlegrounds, and incredibly, a time when there wasnt even an honor system! People just got together in hillsbrad and destroyed each other for no other reason than to have fun. It happened on a massive scale, and it would go on for hours. I suspect that this was the reason devs implemented AV, to try and capture that epic war feeling in an instanced battleground. It worked for a while, a long while actually. AV would rage for hours. Then it became about the rewards, and as we all know suddenly everything changed
Still, there have been plenty of changes aimed at pve too. Some of the dungeons werent even in the game at release such as Dire maul, mara, and even raid zones like BWL and ZG. There was a time before AQ was accessible, but before that there was a time when silithus itself wasnt accesible.

Frost shock used to be able to keep an Alliance player permenantly slowed. I on foot used to chase down mounted players with it. So Blizzard introduced Diminishing Returns.
Umrtvovac Jul 10th 2008 10:52AM
And they also get rid of diminishing returns, you know, frost shock dont have any now...

THE AV SIDES ARE NOT EQUAL
any moron with a brain or non allie would see that
id trade the 20ft ramp WITH a building you can hide, eat, have sex (w/e) - then a bridge with archers being able to hit horde from miles around - only my horde with 13k health and 500+ resiliance can get to the allie AS, as for my Allie toon, i can walk naked and take it alone - untouched - never mind the CITY the horde has to fight wade through, whilst the Horde defence nps hand the allies marathon drinks as they wizz by
how bout, MAKE THE SIDES EQUAL????!!!\
or
FLIP IT EVERY MONTH, heh, then youd see the dispairity on the hord side, HORDE DO WIN, but its at a greater strategical tactics and inplementation - allie well the whole side could be filled with 12 your old toons naked and pull off the same.
-end rant

NERF TEH ARCHURS!!!1!1
Kaylek Jul 10th 2008 11:09AM
Yeah, clearly an allie-made map, "look, it's hard for us too!"
I play both sides. There's a clear advantage for the Alliance, their defense is much more effective.

and retaking towers
10ft crowded tower
of a 50 ft open bunker
which is easier to retake?
twh Jul 10th 2008 12:18PM
The Choke point at Iceblood Tower renders your point moot.
here is a thought Jul 10th 2008 12:24PM
ditto!
Horde architects FTL!
i must fall of at least one damned curvy ramp per game. i want a WIDE staircase in a horde tower!!!!
Syme Jul 10th 2008 11:27AM
Yes, Umtrvovac, I am aware that they did get rid of Diminishing Returns on frost shock. But frost shock was on them for 3 years, and it was the ability that introduced the concept.

Glad my pet doesn't die now. Just wish he could run as fast as he used too.

The only way to balance Arenas, and have PvE is to create Arena servers. You level your normal char to endgame and pay the normal fee for arena teams, and you get to create a char on an Arena server. This allows Blizzard to balance Arenas without making one class OP in PvE or vise versa
Bynde Jul 10th 2008 11:43AM
I read the article. It seems Blizzard really does try to satisfy it's subscribers. Good for them.
Oh. And I assume "qq" means bitching or complaining, right? Sorry. I'm from the generation that doesn't do all it's human interaction thru text messaging.
Ikarus Jul 10th 2008 1:56PM
Haha. I'm with you. for the longest time I didn't know what it meant exactly, but i got the idea. Finally someone explained that "QQ" is supposed to look like two eyes crying
Bynde Jul 10th 2008 2:07PM
""QQ" is supposed to look like two eyes crying"
Ah jeez, I never would have figured that out. I thought it was some sort of acronym. Thank you, Ikarus!

@Heilig
Hunter's 'mobile shot rotation'? There is no such thing. Hunters have to be stationary to achieve a true shot rotation. Stationary in arena = dead.
There are not "plenty" of hunters in the top arena brackets. The one consistent factor in S1, S2, & S3 of the arena is that hunters did not meet blizz's projected representation levels in ALL catagories. I play and arena on 4 servers/battle groups and I have never seen a hunter with a season 3 or 4 bow or gun.
Megatf who wrote the 'how to guide' on Hunter/Druid teams on the Blizz website, QUIT the hunter class because of how they fair in the arenas vs other classes.
twh Jul 10th 2008 12:19PM
Ask any paladins about patch 1.9.
It was the patch that pretty much destroyed ret DPS and prot tanking and forced paladins to the back of raids.
Radiophonic Jul 10th 2008 1:01PM
Agreed, it takes little effort to bypass any defence at Frostwolf. This needs repaired badly.
They Jump the fence to the left of the entrance, they go around the back of West Frostwolf Tower to avoid any resistance there and bypass that gate. Horde? There are no shortcuts, you have to run though an Alliance turtle at the stupid bridge in 80% of the games to cap the gy at Dun Baldar.
Solex Jul 16th 2008 4:02AM
You ever notice how every class thinks they got nerfed the worst?
